How to Make Your Own Halloween Window Silhouettes

by Anya Meave

Halloween is an enjoyable time of the year that is full of treats and ghoulish delight. For most people, decorating a home is part of the Halloween festivities. Scary decorations aim to scare trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. Make your own Halloween window silhouettes at home to decorate windows and welcome guests of any age on Halloween. Request help from children to complete the Halloween silhouette crafts to keep kids busy before seeking treats at night.

Items you will need

  • Black construction paper, 8-½" by 11"
  • White or yellow crayons
  • Scissors
  • Newspaper
  • Clear glue
  • Black glitter
  • Clear tape
Step 1

Decide on Halloween symbols to make into silhouettes, such as a jack-o'-lantern, bat, witch or cat. You can draw the silhouettes free hand or download a Halloween template from an online website.

Step 2

Lay the sheets of black construction paper on a table and draw the outline of a symbol or trace the outline of a cut-out downloaded image with a white or yellow crayon. This allows the outline to be visible when cutting.

Step 3

Cut out each outline from the sheets of black construction paper with scissors. Set the Halloween silhouettes aside after each silhouette has been cut.

Step 4

Place a sheet of newspaper on the table and arrange the Halloween silhouettes on it. Apply clear glue around the edge of each silhouette. Sprinkle black glitter over the edge of the silhouettes. Lift the Halloween silhouettes up with both hands and shake off the excess glitter.

Step 5

Set the silhouettes aside to dry for 30 minutes. Place a rolled piece of clear tape on the front of each silhouette and tape it to the window.
