How to Make Origami Pockets

by Sabrina Holley-Williams, Demand Media

Origami is a traditional Japanese art of folding paper into different shapes. While origami can involve creating very intricate and complicated shapes, there are also many simple folds. One of those is a pocket. A pocket is not only a perfect start for someone new to origami, it is also a fun and practical item to create.

    Step 1

Fold a square piece of paper in half so that it forms a triangle.

    Step 2

Position the paper so that the folded edge of the triangle is toward you.

    Step 3

Take the right corner of the triangle and fold it upward so the tip meets a point along the edge of the paper on the left side. The angle that is formed from the tip of the triangle meeting the edge should be about 90 degrees.

    Step 4

Repeat the last step with the opposite corner, folding the left tip to meet the point on the right edge that is opposite the point in step 3.

    Step 5

Fold the two triangular flaps of paper at the top down on the outside or tuck them inside.
