While the ancient Japanese art of origami may seem intimidating, there are some basic patterns that are easy enough for beginners and children to do. An origami picture frame is a simple pattern which consists of just one sheet of origami paper and can be done in a couple of minutes. This origami frame is a way to personalize family photos and makes a great homemade gift. This activity is ideal to do at home on a rainy day or in the classroom.
Step 1
Lay the sheet of paper on a flat surface, colored side down.
Step 2
Fold the paper in half vertically and then fold it in half horizontally. Unfold the paper. You should now have two crease lines -- one horizontal and one vertical.
Step 3
Fold the top edge of the paper downward approximately one-quarter of the way toward the horizontal crease line. Fold the bottom edge of the paper upward the same distance.
Step 4
Fold the left-hand and right-hand sides of the paper inward approximately one-quarter of the way toward the vertical crease line.
Step 5
Flip over the shape to the colored side and fold all four corners inward so they meet at the center of the square.
Step 6
Flip the paper over and insert the corners of your photo underneath the corners of the frame.
Tips & Warnings
- Glue a magnet to the back of the origami frame to turn it into a fun accessory for the fridge.
