The art of origami can transform a regular piece of paper into a complex piece of art with a little practice and creativity. Children and adults can create origami animals. A dachshund works well as a choice for beginners to shape. Making an origami dachshund requires only a standard piece of square, lightweight origami paper. Select brown or black paper for a realistic look or paper with a pattern for a more fanciful approach.
Step 1
Place the colored side of a 6-inch by 6-inch piece of square origami paper flat against a hard surface. Fold the square in half diagonally to form a triangle. Press firmly along the fold to create a crease. Unfold the paper.
Step 2
Fold the top-left corner of the square down to the center crease. The top edge of the square should line up with the center crease. Create an identical fold with the top-right corner of the square. The result should be a diamond.
Step 3
Fold the bottom noncolored portion of the diamond over the top diamond folds. Press firmly along the fold to create a crease that lies directly below the folded corners.
Step 4
Pull the bottom left corner up one inch and fold to form a small triangle. Pull the bottom right corner one inch and fold to create an identical triangle on the other side. The two corners of the triangle should meet in the paper's center.
Step 5
Flip the paper over and turn it so the two side corners of the diamond are closer to you. Make an invisible line across the diamond to connect the two side corners. Fold the paper up and create a crease at this line.
Step 6
Flip the paper over and turn it so the two side corners are now further away from you. Fold the bottom tip up about one inch. Press along the fold to make a crease.
Step 7
Fold the entire origami paper in half lengthwise. The folded tip should be visible on the outside of the fold. Pull the tip to the right and fold at the corner to form the dachshund's tail. Go to the other end of the paper and repeat the fold on the tip to create the head. Crease along each fold.
