How to Make an Origami Blow Gun

by Alice Godfrey

A blow gun may be a primitive weapon, but it is always ready to fire since breath is its only propellant. You can make a paper blow gun using the Japanese art of paper folding called Origami. Your blow gun can shoot a dart made from wood or paper or any other material you want, providing that its diameter is not greater than that of the blow gun's tube. Household supplies are all that is needed.

Items you will need

  • Construction paper, 8-1/2-by-10-inches
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Cellophane tape
Step 1

Place the construction paper horizontally on a table. Measure the length of the construction paper with a ruler. Make a dot at the halfway mark with a pencil. Cut vertically through the construction paper at the dot with scissors.

Step 2

Place one of the cut halves of construction paper horizontally on the table. Lay the pencil vertically on the right side of the paper. Roll the pencil toward the left side to form a tube out of the construction paper. Tape the tube closed at both ends and at the middle with strips of cellophane tape.

Step 3

Upend the tube so that the pencil falls out. Wrap three strips of cellophane around one end of the tube as protection against the saliva in your mouth.

Step 4

Place the cellophane-taped end of your blow gun into your mouth. Take a deep breath. Blow out through the tube to test your blow gun.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use any color construction paper that you want for your blow gun.
