How to Make a Mosaic Guitar

by Steven French

A mosaic guitar is a decoration for the home that can be hung on the wall or kept on a guitar stand. Give a mosaic guitar as a gift to a musician in your life. Use an older guitar that you no longer intend to play, as the process of adding mosaic tiles will render the guitar unplayable. Turning an older guitar into a decoration is a way to recycle what might otherwise be thrown away.

Items you will need

  • Old guitar
  • Assorted mosaic tiles
  • Mosaic adhesive
  • Grout
  • Sponge
  • Putty knife
what is a fallback
Step 1

Remove the strings if they are still attached by loosening the tuning pegs then removing the bridge pins and the strings.

Step 2

Lay the guitar flat and lay out the tiles in any arrangement you like. Experiment with different colors, shapes and patterns until you find one you like, which covers the entire surface. Complete small sections before moving on to others.

Step 3

Lift up the tiles one by one. Apply mosaic adhesive to the bottom of the tiles and press them against the surface. Allow drying time based on the instructions on the adhesive label.

Step 4

Place some grout on the putty knife and smooth it along the surface of the mosaic tiles so that it penetrates between the tiles.

Step 5

Dampen the sponge with water and wring it out so that it is slightly damp. Wipe the excess grout from the surface of the tiles. Allow drying time based on the label of the grout.
