How to Make Metallic Braids

by Kelly Sundstrom, Demand Media

When you create handmade crafts, you can make the crafts more sparkly and decorative by using metallic materials. For example, you can braid together metallic twine using a few basic materials that can be purchased at any arts supply store. This metallic braid can be used as a belt, used as a miniature tree decoration or can even be transformed into a shiny ornament.

    Step 1

Cut three pieces of metallic twine using scissors to measure 18 inches long.

    Step 2

Place the three pieces of metallic twine together, and line up the ends evenly.

    Step 3

Secure the pieces of twine together on one end using a metal clamp. Hold the clamp in between your knees.

    Step 4

Hold one piece of metallic twin in your right hand, and the other two in your left hand.

    Step 5

Fold the metallic twine in your right hand in between the two in your left hand, then grasp the two pieces of twine on the far right into your right hand.

    Step 6

Fold the metallic twine in your left hand in between the two in your right hand, then grasp the two pieces of twine on the far left into your left hand. Repeat this process until the entire length has been braided together.

    Step 7

Tie a piece of nylon string around both ends of the metallic braid. Remove the metal clamp, then cut off any excess nylon string using scissors.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Use different colors of metallic twine to create a more colorful metallic braid.
    • Keep sharp scissors away from children.
