When you enjoy painting figurines or models, you may feel frustrated if you cannot locate the exact type of model paint that you need from a hobby shop or craft store. For example, metal flake paint may not always be available in stores. One solution is to customize standard colors of model paint by adding in metallic micro flakes, which will make the paint sparkly and shimmery. Everything you need to make metal flake paint can be readily purchased at any arts and crafts store.

Items you will need

  • Empty paint can
  • Model paint
  • Metallic micro flakes
  • Paint stick
Step 1

Place an empty paint can onto a counter or desk top. Take the top off of the paint can and set it to the side.

Step 2

Fill the paint can 3/4 full with the model paint that you want to use as the base of the metal flake paint.

Step 3

Fill the remaining 1/4 of the paint can full with metallic micro flakes.

Step 4

Stir the metal flake paint using a paint stick for 10 minutes to ensure that it has been properly mixed together.

Step 5

Place the top back onto the paint can to seal it until use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep model paint and metallic micro flakes out of the reach of children.
