Balloon animals are made by blowing up and twisting balloons together. Making a ladybug balloon provides the perfect entertainment at a child's birthday party and a conversation piece when made to impress your family and friends. With just a few balloons and the right twisting instructions, the ladybug balloon is finished in under five minutes.
Items you will need
- 1 red heart balloon
- 1 black "260" balloon
- 1 white "260" balloon
- 2 yellow "160" balloons
- Black permanent marker
Blow up the heart balloon a little bigger than the size of a man's palm. Tie it off by taking the nozzle, wrapping it around your finger and pulling it through the hole to form a knot. Two inches up from the bottom of the heart, pinch the balloon and twist it to make a bubble. Twist the nozzle around the bubble. This is the ladybug's head.
Make the ladybug's legs and rear end by blowing up the black balloon half way. Tie if off into a knot the same as you did the heart. Two inches up from the balloon's bottom, pinch and twist to make a bubble. Pinch and twist again right next to that bubble to form a matching bubble.
Attach the black balloon to the red balloon. Place the black balloon at the second twist around the heart's bubble and twist the two together three times.
Make two more legs at the bottom of the black balloon. Make a 2-inch little bubble and twist. Repeat right next to it. Make a smaller 1-inch bubble next to those two. Take the nozzle of the pinch twist and wrap it around the legs.
Examine the balloon. Hold the balloon in front of you so that the red balloon is at the bottom with a small bubble in front. See four black bubbles on top of that, a tiny black bubble and then the remainder of the black balloon.
Cut the very end of the black balloon and hold tightly to keep the air in. Stretch it over the center of the heart and wrap it around. Twist it between the legs and the rear end. Tuck the nozzle inside.
Blow up the white balloon 1/3 of the way for the eyes. At the top, make a small, 2-inch bubble and twist. Make another 2-inch bubble next to it and twist again. Break the balloon off by pulling it and snapping it. Tie the balloon. Wrap the end around the middle of both eyes at the pinch twist. Put the eyes to the ladybug's neck and twist it around until secure.
Stretch the yellow balloons a few times so that the air will go right to the tip. Blow up the first balloon about an inch and pinching it at the base of the bubble. Release your fingers, give the bubble a puff of air and hold. This allows the antenna to have an air bubble at the top. Tie it at the very bottom. Repeat using the second yellow balloon. Tie the two antennas together at the bottom and cut below the knot. Take the knot, place it underneath the ladybug's neck and then wrap the balloon around the ladybug's eye. Repeat for the other antenna.
Draw black circles on the ladybug's back. Add a mouth, eyes and eyebrows to the head.
Tips & Warnings
- Make sure your hands are clean and dry.
- Do not over inflate balloons.
- Practice holding one balloon in your hand and twisting with the other hand.
- A pump inflates the balloons easier.
- Do not allow children to play with uninflated balloons as they could choke on or transfer dirt to the balloon.
