When you are interested in learning about outer space and space travel, make the information more exciting by creating a hands-on craft that is related to outer space. For example, use a few household and craft materials to create a whimsical rocket ship. This enables you to create a visual, dimensional representation of a rocket ship, which can help you imagine what it must be like to launch into outer space in a real rocket ship.

Items you will need

  • Paper towel tube
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • 2 paper cone cups
  • Craft glue
Step 1

Place a paper towel tube onto a table or counter top, and paint the outside of the tube using colorful acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry for 20 minutes.

Step 2

Paint the outside of two paper cone cups using colorful acrylic paint. Allow the paint to dry for 20 minutes.

Step 3

Squeeze a line of craft glue around one end of the painted tube, and press one of the painted cones onto the end of the tube. Position the cone so that the point is facing out. Allow the glue to dry for 20 minutes.

Step 4

Squeeze a line of craft glue around the other end of the tube, and press the other painted cone onto the end of the tube. Position the tube so that the point is facing into the hole of the tube. Allow the glue to dry for 20 minutes.

Step 5

Place the paper rocket onto the table or counter top by standing it up onto the bottom cone.
