How to Make Clam Bait Bags for Crabbing

Clam bait bags are made from a bright orange mesh tube fabric. One end is held together with a stainless hogring while the other end is closed with the snood. The bag is large enough to hold three small clams or chunks of fish. The bright orange mesh tube fabric is a commercial grade fabric. It is sold in in spools 100 to 500 foot long. The fabric tube is 1 1/2-inches wide. Make a clam bait bag in less than five minutes.

Items you will need

  • 1 1/2-inch wide orange bait bag material
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • 3/4-inch hogring
  • Pliers
  • Claim bait
  • Snood

Step 1

Measure and cut a 6-inch long section of 1 1/2-inch orange bait bag fabric.

Step 2

Gather one 1 1/2-inch end.

Step 3

Slide a 3/4-inch hogring over the gathered end approximately 1/2-inch. Squeeze the ring around the fabric with a pliers to secure.

Step 4

Place the clam bait in the clam bait bag. Slide the snood over the open end of the bag and pull tight to hold the bait in the bag. Clam bait includes small clams and chunks of fish.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place clam bait in the open end of the bag. Secure the opening with the snood.
