A cardboard silhouette is a useful craft project for students. It can help students visualize how tall and wide they are and how the student's body is shaped compared to other people and even animals in nature. Silhouettes encourage creative thinking, drawing and visualization skills. A simple silhouette is also useful for party displays and decorations. Silhouettes take a couple of hours to complete and can easily fill an empty morning or afternoon period.

Items you will need

  • Tape measure
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Paint
  • Crayons
Step 1

Measure the height and width of the person you want to use for the silhouette.

Step 2

Cut the cardboard to size using a pair of scissors.

Step 3

Lay the cardboard on the ground or other strong, flat surface.

Step 4

Direct your subject to lie down on top of the cardboard.

Step 5

Trace around the person's body onto the cardboard using a black marker. After you have a complete outline, the subject can get up.

Step 6

Cut out the silhouette using the scissors and following the outline.

Step 7

Decorate your cardboard silhouette however you want using markers, paint or crayons.
