by Jennifer Dermody, Demand Media

The Academy Awards, or Oscars, is one of the most prestigious acting awards in the entertainment industry. This yearly award ceremony brings out the movie star in all of us. Relive the excitement of the red carpet by hosting your own Academy Award party. Invite your leading ladies and men to a night of shimmer and shine. Transform your home with Academy Award decorations that are sure to win you the highest party honors of the night.

    Arrival and The Red Carpet

    Step 1

Roll out a long strip of red paper up to the door to simulate the red carpet that welcomes movie stars into the awards show. Line the red carpet with strands of red or white holiday lights.

    Step 2

Stage people as paparazzi along the red carpet. Arm them with cameras and direct them to snap away at the guests as they arrive. By dressing the paparazzi in formal wear they become living decorations.

    Step 3

Place a large sign that says "Awards Show" on your door. Decorate the sign with black, white and gold sparkles.

    The Show

    Step 1

Place your television as a focal point in the room by facing all seating toward the television. Place the television on a table if it isn't already wall mounted. Decorate the table with a black tablecloth and glitter confetti.

    Step 2

Serve food on metallic plates with metallic silverware. Serve beverages in Hollywood style with plastic champagne flutes.

    Step 3

Decorate the walls with large black and white posters of former Academy Award winners. Print out the images on your home printer and have them blown up at a printing store.

    Step 4

Display old newspaper or magazine clippings on a large poster board that showcase past Academy Award winners and scenes from the show. Visit thrift stores or the library for information.

    Step 5

Drape boas wherever you can find a spot for added flare. Offer boas to guests to wear throughout the night.
