The city of Orlando is one of the most visited metropolitan areas in the state of Florida, thanks to world-famous theme parks such as Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios. Orlando International Airport also services a large number of business travelers, cruise ship passengers and those visiting the Kennedy Space Center. Luxury hotels near the airport are limited, but a few recognizable names in the upscale lodging market do exist, most offering 24-hour airport shuttle service for arriving and departing guests.
Orlando International Airport is just off State Road 528, also known as the Beachline, which connects the Orlando area with the major theme parks and tourist attractions and with Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Beach and Port Canaveral. It is about the same distance from the airport to all these places, roughly 40 to 50 miles. For business travelers, the downtown areas is less than 10 miles away. The main luxury hotels close to the terminals are less than three miles north of the airport, with access on roads branching off Highway 436.
Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport
By far the closest luxury hotel to the Orlando airport is the Hyatt Regency, which is actually within the terminal. Guest services include a baggage-retrieval service, with luggage delivery straight to your hotel room or ticket counter. The business services are a focal point here, as is the outdoor swimming pool with views of the runway. Awards for this hotel include a listing as one of the “Top Ten Airport Hotels” by Peter Greenberg, travel editor for NBC’s Today Show, and a "Wine Spectator" Award of Excellence for the Hemisphere restaurant's wine list.
The Marriott hotel chain operates two upscale properties within a mile of the airport. The Renaissance Orlando Airport Hotel provides complimentary transportation to and from the terminals, as well as to popular restaurants in the vicinity. The business facilities at this hotel include 20,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and an amphitheater-style facility. The Orlando Airport Marriott has a Hertz rental car desk in the lobby and a poolside bar.
Crowne Plaza Orlando Airport
The Crowne Plaza hotel is also less than a mile away, with an impressive sky-rise atrium which houses a swimming pool and whirlpool and overlooks the tropical gardens outside. The hotel offers a 24-hour shuttle service from the airport and a "Park, Stay and Go" package that allows guests who bring their own car to stay for a night and park for up to seven days afterward. The lobby has a bistro and a lounge that features live jazz music on weekends.
The Florida Hotel & Conference Center
For those who have time for some shopping before or after their flight, the Florida Hotel and Conference Center is connected to the upscale Florida Mall, just five miles from the airport entrance. The hotel exudes elegance, with polished marble floors, flowing fountains and a day spa that will schedule in-room therapeutic treatments. There is a Starbucks right in the lobby.
