The River Thames flows across the southern portion of England, snaking through the capital of London on its way to the North Sea. Some of the famous landmarks of England can be seen from the river, including the Houses of Parliament, the very modern City Hall, the replica of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the Tower of London. A number of hotels in London are close enough to the serpentine River Thames that they afford guests views of the capital waterway.
Wyndham Grand London
Wyndham Grand London sits in Chelsea Harbour with views of both the harbor and the River Thames. This suites-only hotel offers panoramic views of the River Thames, but guests who want a closer look at the river can take one of the many tours available. The TwentyTen Restaurant overlooking the water offers an innovative approach to dining: Each year the overall theme and decorations change, and each season the gourmet menu changes. The Twentyten Lounge offers a view of the river and harbor as well, and provides a menu of bar snacks and casual fare. The Blue Harbour Spa located in the Wyndham Grand is a full-service facility with massage and body treatments, hair and nail services, a fitness room, a steam room and a sauna.
Sir Christopher Wren's House Hotel & Spa
The city of London reveres the memory of Sir Christopher Wren, who reconstructed many churches and other buildings after the Great Fire of 1666. Tradition says that The Christopher Wren's House Hotel and Spa was the home of the architect, though this is not verified. View the River Thames from your room, the dining rooms or from the riverside terrace. Private dining facilities are available for small parties or large. The menu at Strok's Restaurant includes such succulent dishes as Roulade of Salmon, Lemon Sole and Saddle of Lamb with Steamed Orange Cardamom Pudding. Apple Baravois is a choice dessert.
Opt for a visit to the Savoy and you can include the services of a butler if you are staying in a suite. Expect extravagance from the cavernous but resplendent lobby to the finest details in your room. Certain accommodations at the Savoy face the River Thames for a beautiful riverside view. Fine dining is available in the River Restaurant, also with a river view. Dine at the Savoy Grill and enjoy the influence of modern-day celebrity chef, Gordon Ramsay. If you care to indulge in the customary British afternoon tea, choose the Thames Foyer, where you will enjoy your delicacies in the natural light of a glass-domed ceiling. For a world-class selection of fine champagnes visit the Beaufort Bar while enjoying live music.
The Marriott Hotel West India Quay sits in Canary Wharf, a burgeoning business district of London. This non-smoking five-star hotel overlooks the River Thames and offers standard rooms and suites. In addition, it offers a special selection of rooms known as the Curve Suites. These rooms have panoramic windows for unobstructed views of the river, the quay and the business district. The specialty of the Curve Restaurant and Bar is seafood, and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For cocktails and light fare, visit the Manhattan Bar and Terrace where you may indulge indoors or outside on the patio. A fitness room is available for guests, and although the hotel does not have a spa of its own, it does recommend several independent spas nearby.
