Lodging in Winterpark, Colorado

by Cicely A. Richard

Winter Park is the home of Winter Park Resort, the epicenter of skiing, snowboarding and hiking. Lodging in Winter Park boasts breathtaking views of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Winter guests see the blanket of white, powdered snow on peaks that seem to lick the blue skies. As the temperatures rise, the Rockies become a quilted landscape of pine trees and multicolored wildflowers. Lodgings range from hotels at Winter Park Resort to downtown accommodations.

The Vintage Resort Hotel & Conference Center is located at the entrance of Winter Park Resort. Guests exit their rooms and almost immediately enjoy skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. On-site amenities include ski lockers, an outdoor pool and hot tub, a game room and sauna. Lodging options include guest rooms, studios and suites, several with kitchenettes, fireplaces and two bedrooms. Gasthaus Eichler Hotel & Restaurant is a boutique hotel in Winter Park that resembles a European-style cottage. Though it’s a small establishment, it provides some of the amenities of resorts, such as shuttle service to the ski area, an outdoor hot tub, homemade breakfast and ski equipment storage. It also serves evening drinks after a day on the slopes. The restaurant serves breakfast and dinner seven days a week. Its 15 simple rooms have flat-screen televisions and Wi-Fi.

Zephyr Mountain Lodge is a ski-in/ski-out property at the base of Winter Park Resort and features the Zephyr Express Lift. Its condominiums offer mountain views, full kitchens with wood cabinets, living rooms, gas fireplaces and free Internet. Guests have a choice of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. On-site amenities include four outdoor hot tubs, a fitness center, and ski and snowboard storage. Resort staff helps guest arrange cross-country skiing, dog-sled rides and sleigh rides. Best Western Alpenglo Lodge is located in downtown Winter Park and offers shuttle service to the resort area. On-site amenities include a complimentary continental breakfast with waffles, baggage hold, audiovisual equipment rental and a 14-person hot tub. Guest rooms have wireless Internet and television. Bed & Breakfasts/Inns

Winter Park Chateau bed and breakfast is a Victorian home downtown, next to Main Street. The interior of the bed and breakfast features a staircase and wood furniture. The Chateau provides shuttle service to the train station and the resort, a gourmet breakfast, afternoon appetizers, massage treatments and a hot tub on the second floor. All bathrooms have jetted tubs and bathrobes. Each themed room is named after Colorado ski destinations. The Vail suite contains wooden furniture, bay windows and mountain views. The Rocky Mountain Inn & Hostel may not offer the same amenities as larger resorts and lodges in Winter Park, but it does provide economical family rooms with kitchens and DVD players, as well as dormitory style accommodations. All units have wood cabinets and furniture. The Inn offers shuttle service to the ski area and shops, and lift tickets.
