Tabernash is a tiny ZIP code in Grand County, Colorado, located near larger destination towns like Granby and Winter Park. Tabernash's location puts it within close proximity to some of Colorado's most prized attractions including Rocky Mountain National Park, and skiing at Winter Park and nearby Solvista Basin.
Tabernash is a tiny community of about 200 residents. It is just west of Winter Park/Fraser on US-40 and east of Granby. The town is in the heart of the Rocky Mountains and within a close commute of such attractions as Arapahoe National Forest, Winter Park Resort, Lake Granby and Rocky Mountain National Park. Though you'd be correct not to expect much lodging in such a tiny place, Tabernash does offer one sprawling, activity-filled guest ranch.
Devil's Thumb Ranch
Arguably Tabernash's biggest claim to fame, the Devil's Thumb Ranch is a guest ranch resort located on 5,000 acres of wilderness. The ranch capitalizes on its land and mountain location with a slew of activities for every season. It has an extensive, 100-kilometer cross-country ski network, stables, fly-fishing guides, and a concierge who can help set you up with activities like mountain biking and rafting. For those that prefer to take it slow, there's also a 10,000-square-foot spa, outdoor pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and two restaurants at the property. You'll find private cabins and lodge rooms at the ranch.
Winter Park Lodging
The resort town of Winter Park, less than 10 miles from Tabernash, offers a far superior selection of lodging. If you plan to ski the moguls of Mary Jane or try your hand at the Trestle Bike Park, you'll find numerous slopeside accommodations like the Zephyr Mountain Lodge, which is steps from the Zephyr Express Lift, and the Vintage Resort Hotel, a third of a mile from the lifts. Or you could stay down the road in downtown Winter Park at properties like The Viking Lodge, which has an on-site ski/bike shop, and the Gasthaus Eichler, a European-inspired property with on-site restaurant. At these properties, you'll be within walking distance of shops and restaurants and can use the free shuttle system to get to the resort.
About 11 miles west of Tabernash, you'll find Granby, Colorado. Granby's central location gives it prime access to a variety of attractions, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby Lake, Solvista Basin resort and Hot Sulphur Springs. Granby offers a variety of locations along US-40 and deeper into the surrounding wilderness. The Blue Spruce Motel is located in the center of town and the C Lazy U Ranch is a guest ranch resort located just north of town. The latter offers a large variety of activities from fly fishing and horseback riding in the summer to snowcat skiing and snow tubing in the winter. For those looking to visit Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Lake, the western base camp for the park is just 16 miles north of Granby on US-34.
