Conway, Arkansas, home to two colleges, a symphony orchestra and a drive-in movie theatre seems to offer a little bit of something for everyone. The town, located about 30 miles north of Little Rock, has chain motels, a bed and breakfast and a few mom-and-pop motels to round out the Conway lodging options.
The Ward Mansion Bed & Breakfast
The Ward Mansion benefits from its builder’s fear of fire, acquired after the original home on the site burned in 1950. The thick brick walls and reinforced concrete floors make the rooms in the house very quiet. The Colonial-style mansion has a broad porch with two-story pillars and wings at either side. Three suites, one downstairs and two upstairs, have private baths with jetted tubs. Common areas in the home include the living room and dining room, a sunroom and library. The hosts prepare both full and light breakfasts each morning. Pets and children under 12 are not welcome at the Ward Mansion.
Nine chains, including Fairfield, Holiday Inn, La Quinta and Super 8 operate motels at or near the Interstate 40 interchange with Highway 65 north of Conway. One mom and pop motel provides budget-friendly, no-frills accommodations. Quality Inn offers deluxe rooms with two-person whirlpool tubs. This motel has a seasonal swimming pool and welcomes pets for an additional fee. Howard Johnson Conway provides guests with free Wi-Fi and extended continental breakfasts, and its on-site restaurant serves Mexican food. Fitness facilities include a heated indoor pool, sauna and hot tub.
Near the University
The chain motels and hotels located at the I-40 interchange with Highway 64, east of town, are closest to the University of Central Arkansas and Central Baptist College. Two low-budget no-frills mom-and-pop motels are located on South Harkrider Street. Country Inns & Suites is a smoke-free property with single rooms and suites with whirlpool tubs. Two chain restaurants are a short walk from the motel. All of the rooms at Comfort Suites have microwave ovens and mini-fridges, and a few have hot tubs.
Toad Suck Ferry Damsite Park
Located a few miles west of Conway, Toad Suck Park is part of an Army Corps of Engineers project centered around three dams on the Arkansas River. The entire project encompasses 19,000 acres of river surface that provide excellent fishing and boating opportunities.
