A hidden gem in the Pacific Northwest, Tacoma offers its visitors an eclectic mix of activities. Tacoma's extensive selection of hotels cater to travelers interested in everything from top-notch outdoor adventures to cutting-edge artistic and cultural delights. Located about halfway between Seattle and the state capital of Olympia, the self-proclaimed "City of Destiny" is a great jumping-off point for local exploration, as well as a destination in and of itself.

Hotel Murano: Art Lovers' Luxury Central

Forget New York and San Francisco -- Tacoma is an arts town too. Stay at the luxury Hotel Murano and walk to the Tacoma Museum of Glass, a one-of-a-kind facility that pays homage to glass art and features live demonstrations and the spectacular Chihuly Bridge of Glass between the museum and Tacoma's downtown. With a carefully curated four-floor art collection, the boutique Hotel Murano is almost more artist installation than hotel. But fear not, Hotel Murano is not short on amenities. Enjoy its world-class spa and salon or stop by the well-placed "BITE" restaurant. Serving elegant breakfasts, lunches and dinners, BITE overlooks the four floors of art. Thursday's appetizer-and-cocktail BITE night is a favorite.

Shilo Inn & Suites: Explore the Outdoors

Whether you plan to explore the 70-acre Tacoma Nature Center preserve or hike Swan Park with its country-in-the-city charm, the Shilo Inn & Suites is a smart home base in Tacoma. Practical and affordable, Shilo offers all guests unlimited -- yes, unlimited -- local and domestic long distance calling. Children under 12 stay free, and pets are welcome for a small additional fee. This centrally located hotel is 100 percent smoke free.

Best Western Tacoma Dome Hotel: Family-Friendly Fun

Located off Interstate 5 and a short drive from multiple family-friendly attractions, the Best Western Tacoma Dome Hotel is an affordable and convenient option. The hotel is a short drive to everything from the Tacoma History Museum and the well-loved Tacoma Museum of Glass to kid-centric parks like the Point Defiance Zoo and Wild Waves Enchanted Village. Kids and parents alike will love the free make-your-own-waffle breakfast.

Silver Cloud Inn: A Romantic Weekend Escape

With its excellent reputation, the Silver Cloud Inn is a longtime favorite of Tacoma visitors. Located on the Ruston Way waterfront pier in front of Commencement Bay, the hotel offers corner Jacuzzi suites complete with gas fireplaces and double bay windows that overlook the water. Although visitors may not want to leave the room, taking a break for a romantic night on the town is easy, as the property is conveniently located just two blocks from the restaurant- and attraction-filled Old Town Tacoma. The Ruston Way pier also offers a variety of great local seafood options.
