Montreux, the gem of Switzerland's Riviera, sits between the Swiss Alps and pristine Lake Geneva. The pedestrian promenade along the lake teems with locals and visitors, especially during summer months. They come to enjoy the picturesque setting, water sports and the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival. The lakeshore extends from Montreux to Vevey, then onward to Geneva. When you spend time in Montreux, a hotel room on the lake enhances your enjoyment of this charming European town.

    Fairmont Le Montreux Palace

One of the oldest hotels in Switzerland, the distinctive, opulent facade of the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace is visible from almost any point in Montreux. It overlooks the lake from a vantage point just one block from the promenade. The spacious lobby is richly appointed, but understated, to recapture the style of the most fashionable eras of sophisticated travel. The Fairmont Le Montreux Palace is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. Its 236 elegant guest rooms lack no creature comforts, including wireless Internet access, free access to its spa, a fitness facility and 24-hour room service. This is the place in Montreux for travelers to immerse themselves in the deluxe travel experience of the Belle Époque. The three restaurants, two bars and nightclub make it unnecessary to leave the hotel, except to go home.

    Best Western Eurotel Riviera

It’s a Best Western, but the hotel’s interior and 152 rooms reflect the European side of the family more than its American roots. This high-rise is centrally located within walking distance of major attractions. It hugs the lakeshore, so its floor-to-ceiling windows let you experience sunrise and sunset over the lake in complete privacy. The spacious rooms have upscale European-inspired furnishings. The terraced lakeside restaurants feature vegetarian and international menus, prepared with locally sourced foods.

    Eden Palace Au Lac

This family-oriented Victorian boutique hotel on the lake has 100 rooms with terraces that overlook the lake, the peaks of Rochers-de-Naye or the city. It has a children’s playground and arranges babysitting on request. It successfully marries old-world charm with modern amenities, such as a pool and sauna, cable TV, and free high-speed Internet. The main restaurant offers a la carte French cuisine and buffet meals. Its garden restaurant next to the promenade allows visitors to people-watch while dining. The location makes it ideal for frequent trips to the Montreux Music and Convention Centre. The adjoining Villa Eden lets families, couples and small groups lodge in five restored private villa rooms or a suite.

    Hotel Helvetie

Hotel Helvetie makes it easy to spend your days on the lake and your nights at Switzerland’s oldest casino. Built in 1865 and lovingly maintained, it is across the street from the casino, but less than 700 feet from the promenade on the lake. Each of the 62 rooms has a different old-European, Asian or contemporary décor. Helvetie features a fine dining restaurant and Italian coffee shop for quick bites. Its location provides quick access to the train and buses for sightseeing in the region.
