Key West happens to be a very pet-friendly Florida town. Dogs on a leash are welcome throughout town, in popular Mallory Square, and at inns and some hotels. Typically, hotels charge an extra nightly fee per pet. However, three hotels in Key West let you bring your pets for free, and another charges a one-time fee regardless of length of stay.

Sheraton Suites Key West

You're more than welcome to bring your pets to this resort hotel as long as they're under 40 lbs. There's no extra charge for them, either. The all-suites hotel, with180 rooms, has a tropical decor. Rooms have bright yellow and white walls, and blue, green and turquoise fabrics. Dark wood furnishings adds a Caribbean plantation-style to the decor. Suites come equipped with refrigerators and microwaves. The hotel sits across from Smather's Beach, one of the largest in Key West. Dogs are not allowed on the beach, but you're invited to stroll the wide sidewalk, flanking the beach, with dogs on a leash.

Westin Key West

Dogs under 40 lbs. are allowed at this waterfront hotel at no surcharge, You're not allowed to leave pets in the room alone, but you'll have plenty of places to take them around this property. Walk along the waterfront promenade, lined with shops and cafes, stroll the pier, or head into town. Duval Street is a block away and Mallory Square is next door. The 178-room, AAA four-diamond hotel is decorated with neutral tones of taupes, creamy whites and pale yellows. Some rooms have balconies overlooking the ocean. If you can get someone to watch your pets, you can take a swim in the outdoor pool or work out in the fitness center.

Banana Bay Resort

This quiet, intimate resort sits on the waterfront about a mile and a half from Duval Street. The adults-only resort may not allow kids under 21, but pets at a maximum of 40 lbs. are welcomed without surcharge. The resort has rooms and one-bedroom suites, with four-poster beds draped in gauzy fabric, ceiling fans and private verandas; pets are allowed in all accommodations. Guests are also free to walk leashed dogs on the resort's garden paths and private beach. Dogs are not however, allowed near the pool. If you'd like to get out on the water, the hotel offers boating excursions from its waterfront site, and pets are allowed.

Doubletree Grand Key Resort

When you book your room at this hotel, let them know you'll be bringing a pet. Dogs and cats are allowed, as long as they weigh under 75 lbs. The resort charges a $75 fee regardless of length of stay, for up to two pets per room. The 216-room hotel has a contemporary island decor with bright yellow walls and navy blue and white fabrics.
