Ideas for a Basement Party Room With a Kitchenette

by Samantha Kemp, Demand Media

After completing the daunting task of finishing your basement, you want to relax and enjoy the space. The solution is to make your own party room that gives you the experience and comfort you deserve. Whether it's a relaxing in-home theater, a pub or a club scene, your basement provides the setting to achieve your party goals.

    Pub

Decorate your basement party room like a pub or bar. Include a pool table, dartboard, table slot machines and neon lights. A couple of retro video games easily fill a neglected corner. Add bar stools next to your kitchenette plus storage for martini glasses, shakers and wine bottles. A wine cooler is another option for your bar. Also include a beer tap if possible. Recessed lights on a dimmer allow you to turn the lights down for an intimate setting.

    Movie Room

Make your party room the ultimate hangout spot by including a home theater in your basement. Add red carpeting, comfortable reclining chairs and a huge television. Add enough seating so all of your guests can enjoy the movie and after-party. A sound system is a definite must for this room. Old movie posters, large red drapes and vintage signs perfectly outfit the room. Set up your kitchenette so it serves as a concession stand. Stock it with plenty of candy, a soda dispenser and a nearby popcorn machine.

    Decade Specific

Choose your favorite historical era and model your basement party room after it. For a 1920s theme, add black and white posters, plus Tiffany blue furnishings or wall color. This era is all about Hollywood glam, so add lots of glitter and sparkle in your lamps, tables and accessories. Black and white checkered floors, records on the wall, a jukebox, silver bar stools and a kitchenette that looks like a diner set the scene for a 1950s party room. You can make your party room look like a western saloon with hardwood floors, paneling, dark tables, a poker table, wooden swinging half-doors and a butcher block countertop.

    Club

A club scene is ideal for a party room. Set the scene for your club room with a large disco ball in the center of the room. Paint the walls a dark color, such as black, red, blue or purple. Have your kids graffiti their names on the wall. You may also want to add glow-in-the-dark shapes or hidden messages. Add a kicking sound system and a karaoke machine for the wanna-be celebrities in your family and social group. Strobe lights, neon lights, black lights and bright fabrics add color to the room. Club chairs and beanbag chairs provide seating for your guests.
