Icicle Theme Party Ideas

by Donni Jones, Demand Media

An icicle party is an enjoyable idea, whether you're celebrating the winter season or just escaping the oppressive heat of summer for a few hours. Party guests will appreciate the change from the usual movie night or cocktail party, and this theme can be interpreted in several fun ways that make a great party for children and adults.

    Arrangements

Hang silver, white and blue streamers and balloon clusters. Shop online for faux diamond crystals or fake ice and place buckets of it on the food table to make a centerpiece. Have a banner made featuring icicles that reads, "Icicle Party." If your budget allows, have a large ice sculpture made; if not, carve fake icicles out of Styrofoam and hang from doorways and windowsills.

    Entertainment

Play a game of Pin the Nose on the Snowman using a paper or Styrofoam icicle for a nose. Before the party, hide mini Styrofoam icicles all over the house or backyard for guests to search for in a scavenger hunt, or fill a large jar with them and see who comes closest to guessing how many there are. Make a cardboard headless snowman holding an icicle in his tree branch hands and let partygoers take photos standing behind him. See who sings the best karaoke, using songs such as "Cold as Ice" by Foreigner, "Funky Cold Medina" by Tone Loc, "Frozen" by Madonna, "Black Ice" by AC/DC and "Cold" by The Cure.

    Awards

For prizes, buy pencils, gift bags, coasters, candle holders, bottle openers, notepads, matchboxes and key chains with ice, ice cubes or icicles on them. Or, have a batch of items customized with an icicle image on a website that offers this service. Craft your own refrigerator magnet party favors to give away: paint caps from beer bottles white, glue a small magnet inside and use silver or blue paint to paint "Icicle Party" and the date on the front.

    Food

On the food table, place little flags next to each dish showing its icicle party-themed name. Examples include arctic eggrolls, frozen fajitas, cold calzones, icy oysters, and glacial grilled chicken. Also use this naming technique with beverages: frosty juice and sub-zero soda for a kid's party, winter white Russians and shivering shooters for an adult's party. Make or buy a dozen cupcakes and pipe a word such as "chilly," "freezing," "icicle," "polar," "frostbite," "frigid" and "goose bumps" onto each.
