Key West, Florida, has a handful of quality accommodations that sit along the ocean, most of which are independently owned boutique-style hotels or mid-sized spa resorts. These properties lie in close proximity to various points of interest like museums, shopping galleries and marinas. Overnight rates vary depending on the actual location, room type and season, but typically range from middle-of-the-road to pricey.

Ocean Key Resort & Spa

The Ocean Key Resort & Spa is close to the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, Mallory Square and the Key West Shipwreck Historeum. The on-site SpaTerre offers a menu of treatments that draw on Eastern wellness practices, from traditional Balinese massages to hot stone therapy, all performed in candle-lit rooms scented with jasmine. Guests also have access to a fitness center with high-end cardio and weight-training equipment and salon services like face and body depilation. The outdoor pool is lined with oversized cabanas, while the marina offers private fishing charters and glass-bottom boat tours. Additionally, business travelers can utilize 8,670 square feet of meeting space and state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment. The resort's fine dining restaurant is heavy on seafood and overlooks the placid waters of the Gulf. All 100 rooms are outfitted with tiled floors, jetted whirlpool baths, i-Home clock radios, mini-bars and private furnished balconies.

The Reach, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

The Reacg is nestled in the heart of Old Town, convenient to the Key West International Airport and within walking distance of Duval Street's vibrant nightlife. The resort's backyard is comprised of Key West's only natural beach, and guests can rent waverunners, kayaks, scooters, snorkel gear and even electric cars on site. A non-certified scuba diving course is also available, while those who'd rather stay dry can take a two-hour sunset cruise serving complimentary wine and beer. The resort's Rees Jones-designed golf course offers 6,500 yards of play from the back tees, with a pro shop and driving range, while the spa administers aromatherapy and Swedish massages on the beach. Dining options range from a New York-style steakhouse to a casual poolside breakfast to room service. Each of the property's 150 guest rooms offers views of the city or ocean and features flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines, private safes, wet bars and plush bathrobes.

Ocean Breeze Inn

The AAA-approved Ocean Breeze Inn provides easy access to many points of interest, from the Key West Aquarium to the Curry Mansion Museum to the Old Town Trolley Tours. Additionally, the premises are just steps from the beach and near fashionable restaurants like Blue Heaven or Louie's Backyard. Guests can enjoy a heated outdoor swimming pool with sunning area, free on-site parking and complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the property. Staff can also direct out-of-towners to local places that provide diving, snorkeling and deep-sea fishing charters. The hotel offers 15 individually decorated rooms, all on the ground floor and each with its own private entrance. Select rooms also have private patios, wicker seating areas and full-sized kitchens. No pets are allowed in the units. Interested parties should inquire about seasonal deals that offer free night stays and discounts prior to booking.

Southernmost House

The historic Southernmost House is a bed-and-breakfast-style property that is situated near the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum and Conch Tour Train as well as the Southernmost Point in the Continental USA. Property amenities include Wi-Fi access, valet laundry service, a gift shop, in-room or oceanside massages and a zero-entry swimming pool. A concierge desk can provide a list of recommended restaurants in the area, book dinner reservations or theater tickets, arrange picnic trips to Fort Zachary Taylor, or schedule a ferry trip to the Dry Tortugas. All guests are entitled to a free continental breakfast each morning culled from fresh local ingredients, while the poolside bar serves both alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments. The property features 18 guest rooms, each outfitted with king- or queen-sized beds, spacious private bathrooms, climate controls, and panoramic courtyard or ocean views.
