Visitors to Houston spent almost two billion dollars on accommodations in 2008. The huge city covers an area larger than the state of Massachusetts and is only slightly smaller than Maryland. Hotels in northwest Houston generally center around interstate exchanges. Only a few, including one of the best in the world, are inside the Houston beltway.

Courtyard Houston Brookhollow

Marriott’s Courtyard Brookhollow, located just off Interstate 610 north of Interstate 10, is far enough away from the highway to keep noise issues low. The hotel’s small fitness center has cardio equipment and the American-style restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. Standard rooms in the three-story hotel have free high-speed Internet access, luxury bedding and down pillows. The hotel provides free on-site parking for guests and has a no pets and no smoking policy.

Sheraton Houston Brookhollow Hotel

Standard rooms and suites at the Sheraton feature free high-speed Internet access and Sheraton’s Sweet Sleeper beds. The hotel, located near the Interstate 610/Northwest Freeway interchange provides free parking and free shuttle service to the Galleria, a huge mall that attracts millions of visitors a year. Guests have use of an outdoor pool and 24-hour fitness center. An 18-hole golf course is three miles away. Sheraton provides dogs with a Sweet Sleeper dog bed and smoking is not permitted in the hotel.

The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa

Ranked number 11 on Travel + Leisure’s list of Top Resorts in its 2010 World’s Best awards, the Houstonian is located on 18 private acres in northwest Houston. Guests at the hotel have access to the fitness club, which employs more than 30 personal trainers, and the 17,000 square-foot spa and salon. Rooms and suites have floor to ceiling windows with views of the wooded property. Houstonian features Giving Rooms, where a percentage of the room fee is donated to the Houston Food Bank. The property has a smoke-free and no pets policy.

Holiday Inn Express Hotel

Located on Interstate 10 west of the 610 interchange, Holiday Inn Express offers both smoking and non-smoking rooms and free on-site parking. Pets are allowed for a one-time nonrefundable fee. The hotel’s flexible front desk staff accommodates early check-in and late checkout when possible. Moderately priced rooms have free high-speed Internet access and standard amenities like jetted tubs and telephones in the bathroom. Some of the suites with kitchenettes have microwave ovens and mini-fridges. Expect some highway noise in rooms facing the road.
