Once an independent village, modern Wigston is a suburb of the English city of Leicester, 100 miles north of London. Wigston’s recorded history stretches back nearly one thousand years, with Hugh de Grandmesnil named as owner in the 1086 Domesday survey, when the population included 44 serfs. A 20-minute drive from the bars, restaurants and shopping of downtown Leicester, Wigston has only one hotel, but several are within a 15-minute drive. Nearby attractions include Wigston Swimming Pool, Glencorse Golf Club and Leicester Racecourse.
