Yellowstone National Park holds the distinction of being the first national park in the world. According to the National Parks Service, Yellowstone covers more than 2.2 million acres, divides into eight separate sections, features 466 miles of roads and includes five different park entrances. Travelers entering the park from the west entrance looking for the closest hotels may select from three lodging options in the Old Faithful area.
Old Faithful Area
Located 30 miles from the west entrance, the Old Faithful area of the park is one of the most visited and includes many park services and activities. Named after the famous geyser located in this section, this area also features hundreds of other “not so famous” geysers in the region’s four geyser basins. Other natural highlights include Firehole River, Craig Pass, Isa Lake and three waterfalls within hiking distance. The Old Faithful Visitor Educational Center is open yearlong and features exhibits and Ranger-Led programs for all ages. Reserve your hotel a year ahead of time to ensure availability.
Old Faithful Inn
The Old Faithful Inn, a national historic landmark, first opened in 1904 at a location next to the famous geyser. The property expanded to include two additional wings and numerous rooms feature recent updates. The exterior building resembles a rustic-style lodge and according to property managers, this is the most requested lodging facility in Yellowstone. The hotel offers guests the option of 10 types of accommodations ranging from basic rooms with shared baths up to spacious suites featuring separate bedrooms and sitting rooms.
Old Faithful Lodge Cabins
The Old Faithful Lodge Cabins, located adjacent to the geyser, features stone columns and gigantic logs in the main lodge building that has been standing since the 1920s. Visitors and guests in the food court area of the lodge will see magnificent views of the nearby geyser. Choose from two types of cabins for lodging found clustered together near the main building. Frontier cabins include private baths and budget cabins do not, but guests may access showers in the main lodge and use nearby restrooms.
Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins
The Old Faithful Snow Lodge and Cabins, completed in 1999, is one of only two hotels open yearlong in the park, but winter access from the middle of December to March is limited to the North Entrance and by reserved snow transportation only. Choose from lodge rooms in the main building or two types of cabins, including the basic frontier style or the more spacious western type, which both feature private baths.
