Flying into Vancouver International Airport is an eye-popping experience. On approach you are greeted by snow-dusted mountains, the downtown skyline and the vivid blue of the Salish Sea. The airport itself is on Sea Island, nestled between the twin forks of the Fraser River and that same sea. Downtown Vancouver is 10 miles north. Two hotels welcome guests to their Sea Island locations and others sit just across the bridge at Sea Island Way.

Fairmont Vancouver Airport

This innovative hotel is the only one located inside the airport terminal and Canada’s first hotel to use the INNCOM guest room control system. Close the drapes, regulate the temperature and even control the lighting from a high-tech touchscreen pad in your room. Choose one of 392 soundproof rooms and suites with views of the runways, mountains and/or the ocean. No need for a shuttle: Enter the hotel lobby right from the airport concourse. Take advantage of the Fairmont’s health club with sauna, hot tub and mechanized lap pool where you swim against an adjustable current. Book a facial or massage at the Absolute Spa, relax in an overstuffed sofa at the sophisticated Jetside Bar or enjoy a meal accompanied by a fine wine at the Globe@YVR.

Delta Vancouver Airport

Located just outside of the airport boundaries and on the edge of the Fraser River, the Delta Vancouver Airport is the second property on Sea Island. Not only is it a convenient hotel for airport arrivals, this hotel also offers a 138-slip marina and a respite for visitors arriving by sailboat or cabin cruiser. Take the complimentary Richmond Community Shuttle to visit the Steveston Village and Wineries or for a bit of salmon fishing off the public Steveston pier. Back at the hotel, take a dip in the seasonal outdoor pool that fronts the Fraser River or work out in the top floor fitness center. Pets are welcome with payment of a pet charge. A complimentary airport shuttle offers service to the airport terminal.

Westin Wall Centre, Vancouver Airport

Head across Sea Island Way and the first hotel on the Richmond side of the bridge is the Westin Wall Centre, Vancouver Airport. Walk under the atrium-style entryway and look to your left. The grass is growing on the wall, not under your feet. Past the Living Wall is the high-tech lobby filled with hardwoods, metal accents, recessed lighting and original artwork. Guest rooms and suites offer floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the city skyline, mountains or the Fraser River. Check in and head to the fourth-floor pool enclosed in walls of glass. Visit The Apron for a casual meal or order room service. Slip into the Westin’s trademark Heavenly Bed and indulge in a movie on the 37-inch LCD TV.

Comfort Inn Vancouver Airport

Stay at the moderately priced Comfort Inn just off of Sea Island Way in Richmond and take advantage of the hotel’s stay and fly package. Comfort Inn lets you park your car for up to 14 nights at no additional fee and provides free round-trip shuttle transport to your flight and back. While at the property, take a dip in the outdoor heated pool, get in a work out at the fitness center or just relax in your air-conditioned guest room. Take the free evening shuttle to the River Rock Casino Resort and try your luck at the tables or take in a show. Nearby eateries include Subway and Settler’s Restaurant, both less than a block away.
