The Walt Disney World Resort is comprised of many family parks, including two water parks. Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is a watery playground with water slides and swimming areas suitable for all ages. The park houses one of the largest wave pools in the world; man-made waves crash onto the shores of the 200-yard swimming pool every 90 seconds. Park guests who want to stay near Typhoon Lagoon have many options in the immediate area close to Downtown Disney.
Disney's Old Key West Resort
Disney's Old Key West Resort is located less than one mile to the northwest of Typhoon Lagoon. It is located inside the Walt Disney World Resort and houses more than 760 rooms. Guests of the resort receive free transportation to all Disney theme parks, including Typhoon Lagoon. Shuttles travel to and from the resort regularly from just before the park opens until closing time. The resort is designed to mimic the tropics of the Florida Keys with waterways and palm trees throughout the property. Guests of the resort play golf at the nearby Lake Buena Vista Golf Course or tennis at the resort's recreation center. If the kids still want some time in the water after a day at Typhoon Lagoon, the Old Key West Resort doesn't disappoint with four outdoor swimming pools.
Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa
The Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa is located less than one mile to the east of Typhoon Lagoon. The hotel is located inside the Downtown Disney area, and offers free shuttles to and from Typhoon Lagoon. The Buena Vista Palace Hotel caters to families' individual needs with swimming pools, tennis courts, arcades and a hotel spa. After a long day at the water park, hotel guests eat at one of several hotel restaurants, including an Outback Steakhouse located on the property. Additionally, kids eat a free breakfast buffet every morning at the Watercress Cafe with the purchase of an adult meal.
Also in Downtown Disney, the Holiday Inn is a short half mile from Typhoon Lagoon. The Holiday Inn provides an alternative to resort-like accommodations for guests who want to keep expenses low. Because it is an official Downtown Disney hotel, patrons of the Holiday Inn receive complimentary shuttles to and from the parks, including Typhoon Lagoon. A single hotel restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner each day, though several restaurants are within walking distance of the hotel at Downtown Disney. Other amenities include an outdoor swimming pool and a kids' arcade.
Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort
Undergoing a name change in November 2010, the former Regal Sun Resort is now the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort located less than half a mile from Typhoon Lagoon. The Downtown Disney hotel treats guests to free bus transportation to and from Walt Disney World parks. The hotel offers character breakfasts three times a week, at which children eat free with a paying adult. Other property features include a seasonal water playground area and guest rooms that overlook the City of Orlando, Lake Buena Vista or the nightly fireworks at Disney World parks. Theme park tickets are available for purchase through the resort.
