Las Vegas recreates other cultures in the Nevada desert with its monument-like casino resorts, including several locations on the southern end of the Strip. Visit casino hotels here and you can view the New York skyline, enter Egyptian pyramids and even travel to fictional medieval Camelot. These hotels offer accommodations for any budget.

Properties

You will find a handful of chain hotels such as Motel 6 in this area, but the south Strip is generally dominated by the casino resorts. Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur are connected by a monorail south of Tropicana Avenue. New York New York, MGM Grand and Tropicana are at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard. Hooters is located next to Tropicana, while Monte Carlo Resort & Casino is just north of New York New York.

Rates

All of the properties on the southern end of the Strip are in the low- to mid-tier price range, offering accommodations for less than some of the top-tier mid-Strip resorts. The high end of this group includes MGM Grand and Mandalay Bay, where rooms approach triple digits, while New York New York, Monte Carlo, Tropicana and Luxor offer lodging for slightly less. Hooters and Excalibur are more budget friendly if you seek a cheaper place to stay.

Considerations

These larger resorts can be sprawling. MGM Grand offers more than 5,000 rooms spread across several towers; New York New York's accommodations are located in towers representing famous New York City landmarks such as the Chrysler and Empire State buildings. If you bring children, keep good track of them, as it's easy to get lost in these complexes. Mandalay Bay is different from most of the others in that you can easily access the hotel rooms without having to go through the casino. Children are allowed to walk through the casinos to get to rooms and other amenities but cannot loiter in the gambling areas.

Attractions

The Manhattan Express provides an exhilarating roller-coaster ride outside and around New York New York. Luxor offers several exhibits, which have included Titanic artifacts and the inner workings of actual preserved human bodies. Animal lovers can view sea life, including sharks, in the aquarium at Mandalay Bay and lions in the habitat at MGM Grand. Nearby Gameworks is a massive arcade that also includes sports games such as the basketball Pop-a-Shot.
