Hotels Near the Miami Ship Port

by Barbara Dunlap

The Port of Miami is a popular departure point for cruises, plus it's surrounded by shopping, restaurants and hotels. You can find nearby lodging for the night before your cruise, as well as accommodations for longer business or leisure stays. Whether you are traveling with your family or on business, you'll find several hotels, in different price ranges, within about a mile of the port.

what is a fallback

Family Friendly

If your kids are with you, pick a hotel that makes them feel welcome. The Epic, a Kimpton Hotel, offers cribs for very young children, plus room safety kits with outlet covers and toilet latches. School-age kids are presented with a treasure chest of activities upon check-in. The hotel is located near the Miami Children's Museum, and the concierge will recommend other kid-friendly attractions. The Hyatt Regency Miami offers petite suites, which have a sofa bed for kids plus a regular bed for parents. Families with babies can order supplies to be ready when they arrive at the hotel, including diapers, baby food and formula. The Hyatt's restaurants feature kids' menus, and the hotel is close to Bayside Marketplace, a mall with family-friendly shops and restaurants.

Business Friendly

Business travelers also have their choice of hotels near the Port of Miami. The Viceroy Miami offers wireless and wired high-speed Internet and dual-line phones, plus laser printing and photocopy facilities. The hotel features two boardrooms and three meeting rooms, and provides translation and secretarial services as needed. The Courtyard Miami Downtown, a Marriott property, also gives business guests a variety of options. Copy, fax and Internet printing facilities are available, as well as overnight delivery and messenger services. Another plus for business people: the hotel facilitates the process of reserving rooms and meeting and event spaces for groups.

Upscale

It's easy to splurge on a luxury hotel in Miami's port area. The Mandarin Oriental Miami includes rooms with stunning views of Biscayne Bay or the Miami skyline. Its dining options include an upscale restaurant serving Asian-influenced cuisine, as well as a bar that features more than 200 varieties of martinis. The spa area offers holistic treatments in 17 rooms, including rooms for couples. You'll also find luxury galore at the Intercontinental Miami. In the spa, you can indulge in everything from a deep massage to aromatherapy treatments. Guestrooms have oversize windows that provide stunning views, and you can bathe like royalty in the marble bathrooms. The hotel also provides masseurs, personal trainers and babysitters.

Budget

If you're traveling on a budget, quality hotels near the port are few and far between. An exception is the River Park Hotel & Suites, which offers reasonable online rates. River Park rooms feature television with DVD player, coffeemaker and iron with ironing board. The hotel also has a sundeck, an outdoor pool and a fitness room. Additional perks include free continental breakfast, newspaper and Internet access.
