Ice castles are a rare winter treat for travelers. One of the most visited ice castles in Scandinavia is the Lumi Linna SnowCastle in Kemi, Finland, located by the Gulf of Bothnia. While an ice castle may be a challenge to find, surrounding hotels are not. Fortunately for visitors, Kemi-area hotels are located just blocks away from the icy attraction.
SnowHotel at the Lumi Linna SnowCastle
You do not have to go far afield if you choose the SnowHotel -- it's actually part of the ice castle. The SnowHotel has rooms small enough for an individual and large enough for two groups, as well as a honeymoon suite. All of the rooms are made of ice and snow, and the hotel recommends that guests bring a ski cap and long underwear in which to sleep. The temperature in the rooms is a chilly 23 degrees Fahrenheit, but the hotel also provides its guests with a sleeping bag guaranteed to keep them warm. A stay at the SnowHotel is perfect for early birds, since checkout is before 10 a.m. Nightly rates include breakfast in the Castle Lounge; however, they do not include in-room showers or bathrooms. Guests need to take a hotel-provided shuttle to local hotels to take a shower or sauna in the morning.
