The Horseshoe Casino in southern Indiana, formerly a Caesars resort, offers Vegas-style gaming with a 30-table poker room, high-stakes cards and slots. The star of the six eateries at the casino is The Paula Deen Buffet, inspired by the Food Network chef’s famous Savannah, Georgia, restaurant, The Lady and Sons. If you don’t want to stay at the casino resort, find many options nearby or just a hop over the Kentucky border in Louisville.

The Crowne Plaza, located 8.7 miles east of the casino and 1.5 miles north of the Louisville International Airport, is among the five largest in the chain’s worldwide network. Crown Plaza offers queen and king bedrooms and five different suite options. Dining choices include a bar and restaurant with a terrace and a grab-and-go deli. Nearby attractions include the Kentucky Derby Museum, zoo and downtown Louisville. The hotel provides free round-the-clock shuttle service anywhere within a three-mile radius of the property. Indoor and outdoor pools, 24-hour business and fitness centers, and a boutique are among the amenities.

On the historic Museum Row in downtown Louisville sits the 21c Museum Hotel, 9.3 miles northeast of Horseshoe. It's inside five 19th-century brick buildings that once operated as tobacco and bourbon warehouses. The name of the 90-room boutique property, museum and cultural center was chosen for the 21st-century art displayed in its 9,000 square feet of gallery space. At check-in, you receive a preloaded iPod with songs and audio-guided tours of the museum to use during your stay. The hotel restaurant Proof on Main blends Tuscan and southern U.S. culinary concepts, and offers 50 different Kentucky bourbons. Walk a couple of blocks west of the hotel to the Louisville Slugger Factory and Museum, Frazer International History Museum and Louisville Science Center.

Several local motels line Dixie Highway, located near Churchill Downs -- home of the Kentucky Derby -- less than five miles from the casino in Louisville. Among the hotel chain options are Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn. Other areas of interest near this hotel include the Kentucky Fair Expo Center and the University of Louisville. Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn and Motel 6 are located eight miles or less to the north of the casino in Georgetown. The surrounding area offers shopping and entertainment opportunities like searching for vintage treasures at the Georgetown Antique Mall and visiting the Cincinnati Bengals' Training Camp.

The English Renaissance-style, AAA Four-Diamond-rated Brown Hotel is located 9.1 miles northeast of the casino in downtown Louisville’s Theatre Square. Choose between two different guest rooms or two suite styles including the Muhammad Ali suite, decked out in autographed memorabilia and photos of the boxer. The hotel provides a free 24-hour airport shuttle and daytime transportation downtown. If you visit the hotel’s English Grill, try the Hot Brown sandwich, the restaurant’s signature dish that was created in 1926 and featured on the TODAY show. Other attractions within walking distance of the hotel include the Louisville Ballet, Louisville Orchestra and the 4th Street Live! entertainment district.
