The Chicago Theater in downtown Chicago dates back to 1921. Its famed four-story-tall red and white sign greets theater goers when they enter to see live entertainment, music and comedy. Its location on State Street in the heart of the Loop means visitors can choose from a wide selection of hotels nearby.

The Wit Hotel

Guests of The Wit Hotel stay one block north of the Chicago Theater. From its artsy urban exterior to the large painted murals on the inner walls, this boutique hotel's modern design creates an inviting and fashionable atmosphere. Guest rooms "depart from the traditional" with their vibrant design, playful colors and large panoramic windows and views of the city. Wine and beer await guests at the hotel's indoor/outdoor lounge on the 27th floor, and the two on-site restaurants serve Italian and American cuisine. Unlike most hotels, The Wit Hotel has its own 40-seat movie theater. Here guests can host private screenings or enjoy TV viewing parties hosted by the hotel.

Hotel Burnham

The Hotel Burnham was designed by famed city planner and architect Daniel Burham. It dates back to 1895, providing a touch of history while guests stay in contemporary downtown Chicago, just two blocks south of the Chicago Theater. After falling into disrepair, the hotel underwent a restoration in 1999, bringing it back to its former glory. Guest rooms reflect the spirit of the Gilded Age with a rich use of blues and golds, velvet fabrics and contemporary amenities like high-speed Internet access, organic mini-bars and Aveda bath products. The hotel is pet friendly and has an on-site fitness center.

Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel

The Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel puts guests across the street from the Chicago River. This sophisticated luxury hotel provides a central location for exploring downtown's art, culture and theater scene. The Chicago Theater itself is only two blocks away. Its 513 guest rooms feature a modern design with views of downtown and the river. Standard in-room amenities include over-sized marble bathrooms, wireless Internet access and daily newspapers. The on-site restaurant serves contemporary American cuisine, and guests can enjoy Starbucks Coffee at the cafe. Guests can have access to a 24-hour fitness center. For members of the Marriott Rewards program, this is a category 6 hotel.

Hard Rock Hotel Chicago

Live like a rock star for a couple days while staying at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago on North Michigan Avenue, within walking distance to the Chicago Theater and Millennium Park. The hotel's classic Art Deco exterior houses guest rooms fitted with the latest technological gadgetry. All rooms have a cool, modern design and feature 40-inch flat-screen televisions, surround-sound stereo systems, Internet access and iPod docking stations. The Extreme Suites come with guitars and amps and separate living and dining areas. Guests can enjoy drinks and meals at the two on-site bars and restaurant. Pets are welcome.
