Hotels Near Chez Jenny in Paris

by Nannie Kate

Chez Jenny has been a fixture in Paris longer than many of the hotels and other restaurants that surround it. In business since 1932, this Alsatian brasserie near the Place de la Republique serves up regional specialties of savory sausages and sauerkraut, and for the adventurous diner, Chez Jenny offers a delicacy called presskopf, otherwise known as head cheese. If you choose to stay in one of the hotels in this older section of Paris along the northern boundary of the Marais district, you will find it convenient enough to walk to Chez Jenny.

Hotel Murano Urban Resort Paris

Crisp, elegant and perhaps a little futuristic, this four-star establishment offers an Anne Semonin full-service spa and hamman, or Turkish bath. Changeable mood lighting bathes your room in pink, blue, green or yellow. Dine in the courtyard restaurant or visit the chic lounge that offers a DJ and more than 100 kinds of vodka. The sharply contrasting red-and-white decor of the honeymoon suite features a round bed raised on a dais, surrounded by gossamer drapery. Standard rooms and suites are available.

Crowne Plaza Hotel Paris - Republique

The four-star Crowne Plaza overlooks Place de la Republique and surrounds a private courtyard of its own, the Terrace Cour Napoleon III. Pets are welcome, but the hotel asks that advance notice be given. Most of the rooms are standard, with one or two beds, but there are also seven suites available. The on-site Le Dix restaurant offers French cuisine prepared under the direction of the house chef and includes marinated prawns, saddle of rabbit, ricotta ravioli and a raspberry-limencello tart. For smokers, 72 of the 328 rooms are set aside, but smoking is not allowed in the other rooms or in public areas.

Hotel Aquarelle

Ideal for the traveler who needs little more than a comfortable bed and is looking for inexpensive rooms, the Hotel Aquarelle is just across the street from Chez Jenny. This no-frills hotel in the center of Paris is a convenient home base for sightseers. The rooms in this hotel feature walls embedded with stone and an arched stone ceiling in the breakfast room, where a continental breakfast is served each morning. The area around Aquarelle and Chez Jenny is filled with eating options, from pizza to fine dining. The staff at Aquarelle is multilingual.

Hotel Americain

Sporting an embedded-stone motif similar to the Hotel Aquarelle, the Hotel Americain near Chez Jenny is another down-to-basics facility for those on a budget. Some of the rooms have balconies with decorative iron railing. Visit the ancient buildings in the Marais and take in a few of the art museums close by, especially the Picasso Museum and the National Museum of Modern Art. Walk through gardens and flower shops, and enjoy the contemporary boutiques and bars interspersed among the antique buildings.
