Hotels & Motels Near Disney World

by Alison Merfeld

You don't have to drive far to four theme parks in Disney World when you stay in one of Disney's resorts located in the Lake Buena Vista area. Resorts are categorized between value, moderate, deluxe and villa-style resorts. Each accommodation provides complimentary shuttle service to the parks and the Orlando airport at no additional fee. To make your vacation even easier, purchase your tickets to the parks when checking in so you don't have to waste time waiting in line.

Value Resorts

Disney's value resorts consist of its All-Star Resorts. The All-Star Movies Resort offers 1,920 guest rooms decorated with movie posters, Disney cartoon-themed bedspreads and star-shaped lamps above the bed. Rooms include Internet access and mini-refrigerators. The grounds are covered in tropical landscaping and paved paths that lead to the shuttles, on-site food court restaurant and pools. One swimming pool is themed after Fantasia and the second outdoor swimming pool is shaped as a hockey rink. The resort is a two-minute-drive from Disney's Animal Kingdom. Disney's All-Star Sports Resort also provides 1,920 rooms. These rooms are decorated in bright blues and yellows with stars located throughout the room on the bedspreads, wallpaper and headboard. Mini-refrigerators and Internet access add to the room amenities. Resort amenities include dry cleaning, pizza delivery, babysitting services and two outdoor swimming pools shaped as a baseball diamond and a surfboard.

Moderate Resorts

The 45-acre Caribbean Beach Resort offers a beachfront setting along the resort's man-made lagoon. Accommodations vary in decorations from pirate-themed rooms with beds shaped as pirate ships, to a calmer floral-themed room with sconces above the beds. Rooms offer mini-refrigerators, dining areas and Internet access. The on-site Shutter's at Old Port Royale prepares Caribbean-style dishes, such as ribs, Jamaican jerk chicken and cocktails. The resort is a five-minute drive from Disney's Hollywood Studios. The Southwest-style Coronado Spring Resort's Mayan-themed swimming pool, located on an island in the middle of the property, is surrounded by Mayan ruins and tropical flowers. Rooms are decorated with dark-wood furnishings, teal accent colors and leather chairs. Room amenities include ceiling fans, mini-refrigerators and a small sitting area. On-site amenities range from spa services, to a fitness center and a conference room. Four restaurants are located on the property; the Maya Grill offers a buffet-style dining experience. The resort is a seven-minute drive from Disney's EPCOT.

Deluxe Resorts

The Grand Floridian Resort was the first hotel built on the property and easily recognized with its white facade and pointed red roofs. Offering a beachfront setting and views of the Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian Resort includes chandelier- draped ceilings in the lobby, ample seating areas and fresh flowers throughout. The wallpaper-lined guest rooms provide private balconies, DVD players, sitting areas and whirlpool bathtubs. The resort offers two outdoor swimming pools with cascading waterfalls, a health club with treatments for younger children and adults, and 10 on-site restaurants. Victoria and Albert's, located in the dining room, consists of crystal settings with fresh roses as centerpieces. The six-course menu changes frequently. Designed to appear like lodges across national parks in the United States, Disney's Wilderness Lodge provides a cabin-style setting with pine columns and stone fireplaces surrounded by rocking chairs. The 727 rooms consist of dark-wood furnishings and views of the surrounding forest. If traveling with children, designated rooms have private bunk beds. Additional amenities include DVD players, Internet access, private patios and refrigerators. The lodge provides an on-site health club, laundry facilities and an outdoor swimming pool with a water slide.

Deluxe-Villa Resorts

Reminiscent of Atlantic City during the 1940s, Disney's Boardwalk Villas surrounds a 25-acre lake where fishing and boating is allowed. Accommodations offer separate living rooms, full kitchens, washers and dryers, and Internet access. The outdoor swimming pool is in the middle of a circus setting where water slides come out of either an elephant or clown's mouth. Amenities range from a health club with spa services, an on-site brewery and babysitting services. The Mediterranean-style Kouzzina offers a menu of spanakopitas, lamb and grilled pork. The Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort is the newest accommodation on the Disney property. The resort provides views of the fireworks show at Cinderella's castle from its restaurant, California Grill. The restaurant's menu consists of sushi, barbecue chicken and veal chops. Rooms, decorated with leather furniture, tan colors and floor-to-ceiling windows, offer full kitchens with stainless steel appliances, king- or queen-size beds, multiple bathrooms, and private balconies. An outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and four ballrooms are located at the resort. The resort is a three-minute-drive from Disney's Magic Kingdom.
