Like most things in Las Vegas, pet accommodations are available--for a price. Unfortunately, most of the hotels and motels in the city are located on busy streets that aren't suited to walks with the dog. If you have a car, however, there are many neighborhoods just a short drive from the strip that offer open spaces and even dog parks so your pet can stretch out and get some exercise. Even within the confines of the resort corridor, though, you can find small patches of safe, quiet areas in which to walk the dog.

Clarion Hotel & Casino

If you are familiar with Las Vegas you might remember this hotel as the Greek Isles Hotel and Casino. Now a part of the Clarion hotel chain, it is located a short walk from the Las Vegas Convention Center to the east and the Strip to the west. Aside from its pet friendliness, the Clarion Hotel & Casino features a swimming pool that remains open 24 hours a day, a hot tub and a fitness center. In the rooms you’ll find coffee makers and mini refrigerators. The Clarion Hotel & Casino welcomes dogs that weigh 50 pounds or less with a maximum of two pets per room. As of 2010, there is an additional $20 per night pet fee. This hotel is a good choice for the urban dog as there isn’t a lot of greenery around for it to play on.

Westin Causarina Las Vegas Hotel

The Westin Casuarina Las Vegas Hotel, Casino & Spa is a quick walk to the Las Vegas strip and restaurant row. It features in-room spas, a gym and a heated pool. The Hibiscus Spa boasts 10,000 square feet with 15 rooms for massages and facials and a wet or dry sauna. You are welcome to bring your pooch and the hotel provides a grassy area near the garage for him to take care of his business. The Westin is located on a portion of Flamingo Rd. that remains busy with traffic 24 hours a day, so long walks may be a bit of a challenge to accomplish. The Westin Casuarina welcomes dogs that are 40 lbs or less and requests a $150 refundable pet deposit. In 2010, there is also a $35 non-refundable cleaning fee. The hotel does not charge a per-night pet fee but you will be asked to sign a liability waiver.

Candlewood Suites Hotel

Candlewood Suites Hotel is located on Paradise Road, within walking distance of some of the best restaurants in the city. All rooms are suites with full kitchens, if you prefer to eat in, and complimentary high-speed Internet access. The business traveler will appreciate the oversized desks in each suite and free laundry facilities. For your pooch, there is an area just outside the back door with trees and a small amount of grass. Candlewood Suites Hotel charges a non-refundable $75 pet fee that is good for from one to six nights. For stays of one week or longer, the fee is $150. These prices are valid as of 2010. Larger dogs are welcome, as long as they are under 80 lbs.

Comfort Inn

Located across from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and next door to a premier gentlemen’s club, Comfort Inn allows dogs under 15 lbs. Amenities include free breakfast, complimentary high-speed Internet access, free daily newspaper and a shuttle to the airport and convention center. Although it fronts busy Paradise Rd., the University of Nevada Las Vegas is directly across the street from the back parking lot with lots of open space for a leisurely walk with the pooch. The pet fee, in 2010, is $25 per pet, per night.
