Hotels at Moonstone Beach in Cambria, California

by Monica Wachman Google

Hugging the central California coastline, the town of Cambria is a quirky mixture of art galleries, trendy boutique shops and Victorian-era homes dating from the late 1800s. On the western end of town, Moonstone Beach tempts visitors with hidden pebbles of jade, jasper and moonstone agates. A few hotels dot the coastline from Moonstone Beach Park, an ocean-side nature area, along Moonstone Beach to the north.

El Colibri Boutique Hotel & Spa

Opening in January 2010, this boutique hotel takes its name from a creature of grace and beauty, the hummingbird. El Colibri Boutique Hotel & Spa offers 34 rooms and suites decadently furnished with Zen- or modern-style sleigh beds, gas-burning fireplaces and marble bathrooms with granite counters. The castle-like, Spanish-styled hotel sits on the edge of Moonstone Beach Park and offers ocean and park views from both its guest rooms and the upper level Colibri Spa. Book a massage or sink into the roof top whirlpool spa. Once you are thoroughly relaxed, do a little wine tasting and sample freshly made tapas (Spanish appetizers) in the lobby’s Colibri Wine Bar.

Little Sur Inn

Sitting less than a mile north from Moonstone Beach Park, this two-story mission-style property offers ocean views from every room. Second-floor rooms have the best view, high enough to see the curve of the California coast. Sliding-glass doors lead to furnished balconies. The 17 guest rooms have their own gas fireplace and are filled with old Spanish-style furnishings. Daily continental breakfast and afternoon refreshments are included in the nightly rate. A pathway from the property leads down to the beach.

Moonstone Landing

Offering a fireplace in every room and a jetted tub in the ocean-front categories, the Moonstone Landing makes a cozy hideaway for a special occasion or just to get away from it all. The 29-room boutique hotel sits beach side, just over a mile from Moonstone Beach Park. Enjoy a continental breakfast and afternoon appetizers in the glass-walled dining alcove or on the outdoor patio under sun umbrellas. Take a long walk on the beach and you might even see an otter or two, then come back and relax those tired muscles in the outdoor hot tub.

Pelican Cove Inn

Part bed-and-breakfast, part hotel, The Pelican Cove Inn is roughly two miles north of Moonstone Beach Park and offers an assortment of eclectically decorated guest rooms and suites. All rooms offer fireplaces, and the suites include balconies or patios and full ocean views. Brass or fourposter beds and jetted tubs are offered in some suite categories. A fully cooked breakfast, wine and cheese tasting in the afternoon and evening coffee and dessert are included in the room rate. Pelican Cove Inn is across the street from the northern end of Moonstone beach.
