Hotels in Midway, Utah

by Joe Fletcher

Located down the road from Park City, Midway, Utah, is a Swiss-inspired town that serves as a gateway to recreational opportunities like Wasatch Mountain State Park. Despite its modest size, the alpine-esque town offers a variety of lodging from large, activity-filled resorts to small, quaint inns.

Midway hosts events throughout the year that celebrate the town's Swiss roots like Swiss Days and Swiss Christmas. West of the town center, you'll find a host of outdoor recreation in the mountains of the Wasatch range. Destinations like Soldier Hollow in Wasatch Mountain State Park and Homestead Resort provide some of the best cross country skiing in northern Utah. In fact, Soldier Hollow was host to the 2002 Olympics. The Alpine Loop and Provo Canyon scenic byways are also nearby. Another interesting attraction in the area is the Heber Valley Railroad, a scenic train that hosts themed train rides throughout the year.

Homestead Resort

The Homestead Resort is a four-season golf and spa resort that offers a multitude of activities from its 18-hole golf course to horseback riding, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. What really separates this resort apart from all others, though, is the limestone crater on premises that hosts a warm, 55-foot-deep pool of mineral spring water. The Homestead Crater's 90 to 96 F water is available for bathing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Homestead has rooms, suites and rental condos for guests.

Zermatt Resort and Spa

Just down the road from the Homestead and Wasatch Mountain State Park, the Zermatt Resort and Spa is a sprawling property with a spa, hotel, village townhomes, condos, conference centers and a plethora of amenities. As its name suggests, the Zermatt draws heavily upon Swiss influence. The buildings are designed in alpine style, and a European restaurant is on site. The resort offers upscale rooms, studios and suites of the Hotel der Baer. On-site facilities include an outdoor sports shop and concierge, indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, tennis courts, a sand volleyball court, several European-inspired dining options and hot springs analogous to the Homestead Crater.

Blue Boar Inn

The Blue Boar Inn continues in Midway's tradition of Swiss inspiration and is a chateau-style property located near both Homestead Resort and the Zermatt Resort. Named a AAA Four Diamond inn and restaurant as of 2010, the Blue Boar offers bed-and-breakfast-style lodging with a restaurant that melds American and European elements. Dining is available in a formal dining room, on the Hinterhof outdoor patio overlooking the mountains and in the Truffle Hollow pub.
