Ocean Drive in Miami, Florida, is a shopping haven that is comparable to Rodeo Drive or Fifth Avenue. Many of the hotels on Ocean Drive still contain the Art Deco-style of architecture with its colorful details and sharp lines. With its beachfront location, most hotels provide outdoor seating at their on-site restaurants so you can enjoy the Miami sun before exploring the nearby night clubs or boutique stores.
Designed by Henry Hohauser in 1937, the Park Central Hotel is one of the most recognized hotels on Ocean Drive with the 1947 Buick still parked in front of the hotel and the blue and white exterior. The 113 smoke-free guest rooms offer scenic ocean views, a dining area with wicker chairs and free Internet access. The hotel provides an outdoor swimming pool, a sundeck with views of the city and ocean, and a fitness center. This beachfront hotel includes two on-site restaurants. Quinn's at The Park Central prepares seafood dishes with a combination of Caribbean and Floridian flavors. The Betsey Hotel is one of the last hotels on Ocean Drive still containing the "Florida-Georgia" architecture. Designed by L. Murray Dixon in 1942, the hotel's shuttered windows and four columns facade was home to U.S. troops during WWII and the headquarters for politician Gloria Steinem. Renovated in 2009, the 63 rooms still consist of the colonial style, just with a few modern upgrades. Rooms, decorated in lavender, greens and golds, include walnut floors, minibars and Internet access. The hotel's spa includes yoga classes and massage therapies. The hotel is within three miles of the 18-hole Miami Beach Golf Club, located in the center of Miami Beach.
The pet-friendly Hotel Ocean allows pets to stay in guest rooms for a nightly fee, and provides dog-walking services for an additional fee. This boutique hotel offers guest rooms with Internet access, mini refrigerators and newspaper delivery. Laundry services, a continental breakfast and valet parking add to the amenities. The hotel arranges for VIP passes to night clubs on South Beach. Nearby South Beach restaurants include Casa Tua, which offers foie gras and grilled octopus, and the seafood restaurant Nemo. Both restaurants are less than one mile from the hotel. The Tides South Beach Hotel is decorated in earth tones of mainly tans and browns. The 45 suite rooms create a luxury feel with detailed furnishings and hardwood floors. Rooms provide Internet access, iPod docks, robes and seating areas. Pets 35 lb. or less are welcome. The on-site spa provides services in the privacy of your room or poolside. Spa services range from massages to facials and meditation sessions. The hotel's La Marea Restaurant offers a comfortable dining experience with fresh flowers, white tablecloths and soft light hues.
Art Deco Hotels
Situated in the heart of the Art Deco District, the Ocean Five Hotel is just one mile from the Wolfsonian Museum and the Lincoln Road Shopping Center. The 57 guest rooms consist of dark wood furnishings, aquatic murals above the bed and marble floors. Free Internet access, satellite TV and iPod docks add to the room amenities. A continental breakfast is served at the on-site Barolo Ristorante. The hotel is within one mile of the two-story nightclub Mansion, which celebrities frequent on the weekends. The Beacon Hotel, built in 1937, still offers its Art Deco style with its arch doorways, patterned furniture and detailed flooring in the lobby. The hotel's location on Ocean Drive puts it approximately one mile from the Jackie Gleason Theater and the Miami Beach Convention Center. The 73 guest rooms offer simplistic details with brown and white hues and small punches of colors on the accessories. Rooms provide a living area, Italian linens, minibars and Internet access. Located on-site, The Place Restaurant offers sidewalk and indoor seating.
Hotels With Rooftop Pools
The Bentley Hotel and Beach Club offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from its rooftop swimming pool. The hotel provides suite-style accommodations with living areas, kitchenettes and private balconies. The hotel's Spa 101 includes spa therapy treatments while using ideas and techniques from the Asian culture. The hotel is three miles from the Miami Seaquarium and two miles from the Miami Children's Museum. The white and gray, spacious guest rooms in the ecofriendly Sense Hotel offer iPod docks, vegan toiletries, private balconies and memory foam mattresses. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and a painted mural along the wall behind the queen- or king-sized beds. The hotel's rooftop swimming pool is surrounded by a cascading waterfall and provides views of the ocean. The hotel provides discounts when you book a room at least 30 days in advance.
