Hotels & Lodging in Greater Nashville

by Meg Jernigan

About 84 percent of the 10 million people who visit Nashville each year stay in a motel, hotel or resort. Visitors come for the music, museums and nightlife, or use the city as a base of operations for exploring central Tennessee. Rooms are plentiful, and run the gamut from no-frills motels to high-end hotels where even visiting pets get white-glove treatment.

Nashville International Airport

Almost all of the hotels and motels near the Nashville International Airport are along Interstate 40 and on Briley Parkway. The Preston, a boutique hotel, offers a pillow menu and invites guests to choose which religious books they prefer to have in their rooms. Extras on request include lava lamps, pet fish, a rubber ducky, art kit, or milk and cookies. The budget-friendly Alexis Inn and Suites offers a Park and Fly option, where guests receive seven free nights of parking when they book one night.

Opryland

The 20,000-square-foot spa at the Gaylord Opryland, winner of numerous honors including Best Spa 2008 and 2009 in Tennessean’s “Toast of Music City” awards, offers a full menu of spa and salon services. The hotel reopened in November of 2010 after a complete renovation. Comfort Inn Opryland is an economical choice with advance purchase. Located about two miles from the Opry and Opry Mills shopping mall, Comfort Inn accepts pets for an additional fee.

Luxury Hotels

The Hermitage, a AAA Five-Diamond hotel, opened in 1910 and boasts a long list of presidential and celebrity guests, including Minnesota Fats who made his home here for eight years. Pets that stay at the hotel receive a bed and order from a special room service menu. The Hutton Hotel, on the Conde Nast Traveler 2010 Hot List, is an eco-friendly hotel with contemporary furnishings. Two private treatment rooms offer a full range of spa services, and the upscale restaurant prepares locally sourced new American cuisine.

Suburban Nashville

The AAA Three-Diamond Hampton Inn and Suites Green Hills location is adjacent to the Mall at Green Hills and within walking distance of 15 restaurants. Package deals at the hotel include accommodations and a gift card for nearby shopping, or a romance package that includes chocolates and champagne. The super-economical Midway Motel is a small, no-frills property at the 440/40 interchange east of Nashville. The motel’s large parking lot accommodates truckers.
