Hotels in Florida Close to Disney World

by Lee Morgan

Walt Disney World is one of the busiest tourist destinations in the world. People come from all around the world to visit Mickey Mouse in his magical, 43-square-mile resort complex. The Magic Kingdom and EPCOT are among the most well-known theme parks in America, and with that level of popularity comes a need for many hotel rooms. If you want to save a few dollars or can’t get into your favorite Disney resort, stay close to the parks at several non-Disney hotels.

Best Western Lake Buena Vista

The Best Western Lake Buena Vista is a towering hotel in the heart of the Downtown Disney complex. Just down the street from the Disney Marketplace, Downtown West and Pleasure Island, this hotel has been known as both the Viscount and the Travelodge in the past. It is actually located on Walt Disney World Property, but owned and operated by the Best Western Company. The Best Western features 325 guest rooms with private balconies, Wi-Fi and premium cable. It includes a heated outdoor pool, fitness center, game room and meeting facilities. Guests at the Best Western have the option of using bus transportation to all of Disney theme parks.

DoubleTree Guest Suites

The DoubleTree Guest Suites in Lake Buena Vista are also located on Disney property. This is the only all-suites hotel on Disney property, and guests have complimentary transportation available to all theme parks, water parks and nearby Downtown Disney. The DoubleTree rooms are 643 square feet and include two flat-screen televisions and premium cable, refrigerator, microwave, two phones, and on-demand movies and video games. Two-bedroom suites also include a wet bar.

Royal Plaza

The Royal Plaza is a non-Disney hotel located in Downtown Disney’s resort area. This long-time member of Disney’s official hotel alumni is located across from the Best Western and just steps from shopping opportunities at Downtown Disney. The hotel has lighted tennis courts, an outdoor pool, heated whirlpool, fitness center and laundry room. Dine or snack at one of three on-site options, and kids under 10 eat free each morning and evening. Transportation is provided to all Disney attractions.

Gaylord Palms

The Gaylord Palms is not located on Disney World property, but it is less than 10 minutes away by car. This Kissimmee hotel giant is a destination all its own. The gardens at the Gaylord Palms are a 4.5-acre lush tropical landscape under glass where guests wander the jungle and explore the winding waterways. A spa and fitness center leave you feeling worked out or relaxed. The adults-only South Beach pool is for those who want to lounge by the pool while the kids are entertained in Clearwater Cove water playground or Coquina Dunes Recreation Park. Guest rooms include custom-made luxurious mattresses, Gaylord iConnect computer service, refrigerators stocked daily with water, executive desk and chair, and CD players.
