Hotels in Dongara, Australia

by Joanne Thomas

Presenting opportunities for fishing, surfing, sailing and swimming, Dongara, a beachfront town in Western Australia, welcomes visitors seeking outdoor adventures and family-friendly fun. Although there are plenty of campsites and RV parks in Dongara, hotels and resorts are considerably less prolific. Options include self-catering cottage complexes along the beach and a centrally located motel.

Dongara Hotel Motel

Dongara Hotel Motel is a heritage-listed building in the heart of Dongara, a prime location close to numerous restaurants and stores, and about a 10-minute walk from a sandy beach. The hotel offers 28 brightly decorated guest rooms, with connecting rooms available for families and groups of up to six. In-room amenities include complimentary wireless Internet access, a refrigerator and a toaster. Guests have access to a large swimming pool, laundry facilities and an on-site liquor store. The hotel's restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves Asian-inspired seafood specialties. A shaded beer garden offers a more casual alternative.

Getaway Beach

Getaway Beach, located on the Indian Ocean seven miles from Dongara, consists of two beach homes that each accommodate as many as six guests. The homes both feature two bedrooms, including one with a spa bath; a full-size, fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances; a spacious lounge area with plush sofas; and a furnished patio with a gas barbecue grill. The houses overlook a secluded beach, and the complete absence of close neighbors ensures a private and peaceful atmosphere.

Seaspray Beach Holiday Park

Seaspray Beach Holiday Park is an oceanfront property in Dongara that overlooks a sandy beach and is within a short walk from the center of town. A jetty and marina are also close by. Lodging options consist of a self-contained chalet, one- and two-bedroom apartments and a economy cabin. The chalet has three bedrooms and features a fully equipped kitchen and an al fresco dining area; the apartments offer a private balcony or courtyard and also have a full kitchen; and the cabin has a kitchenette and covered veranda. Every unit offers ocean views. A central courtyard includes an outdoor swimming pool and a sundeck with lounge chairs for guests.

Lazy Lobster Holiday Units and Chalets

Lazy Lobster Holiday Units and Chalets is a family-owned resort in Port Denison, a town across the Irwin River from Dongara. It offers budget-friendly accommodations about 200 yards from a beach and marina. The property's lawn areas are shaded by mature trees and include a children's playground, barbecues and a fish cleaning area for fishermen. The resort's six guest accommodations are self-contained units with fully equipped kitchens, laundry facilities and spacious living areas; each sleeps up to six guests.
