Atlanta’s downtown hotels are so close to the Georgia Aquarium that a good pair of walking shoes will be the only form of transportation you will need. Lodging options near the Georgia Aquarium range from contemporary accommodations in a historic early-20th century building to a towering hotel that offers wall-to-wall windows in every room. The hotels are also near sports venues, nightlife and the North-South MARTA subway line, which provides access to Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Midtown and the upscale Buckhead district.

The Glenn Hotel

The Glenn Hotel is a trendy boutique hotel on the western edge of downtown. The hotel is within three blocks of the Georgia Aquarium and steps away from the World of Coca-Cola museum; the Underground Atlanta retail and nightclub district; and Philips Arena, home of the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks and National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers. Guest rooms feature vibrant decor, contemporary furnishings, iHome docks and stained-glass showers that are visible from the bedroom. Amenities consist of a lobby restaurant offering a contemporary twist on traditional American cuisine and a seasonal rooftop lounge with sofas and resident DJ.

The Ellis Hotel

The Ellis Hotel offers boutique accommodations in a building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel is adjacent to the Peachtree Center MARTA subway station and within five blocks of the Georgia Aquarium and Underground Atlanta. The property opened in 1913 as the Winecoff Hotel and was a popular lodging choice until a deadly 1940s fire nearly closed the facility. The hotel ceased operations in the late1970s and remained vacant until its 21st-century rebirth. Accommodations include modern guest rooms featuring iPod docks, marble baths with limestone floors and rainfall showers, and complimentary Wi-Fi access. The property also offers women’s-only floors and an upscale restaurant with a balcony that overlooks Peachtree Street.

The hotel is within three blocks of the Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park, the World of Coca-Cola museum and Imagine It! Children’s Museum. The hotel is also within two blocks of the Civic Center MARTA subway station. Accommodations consist of traditionally decorated guest rooms with complimentary high-speed Internet access and walkout balconies with views of the downtown or midtown skylines. Amenities include complimentary continental breakfast, fitness center and outdoor pool.

The Westin Peachtree Plaza

Towering 73 stories above downtown, the Westin Peachtree Plaza is a modern property within three blocks of the Georgia Aquarium. The hotel is also near the Hard Rock Cafe, nightlife in the Fairlie-Poplar district; the Tabernacle concert venue and Peachtree Center MARTA subway station. The property is housed in a stunning glass tower, which offers contemporary guest rooms that feature wall-to-wall windows. Hotel highlights include scenic glass elevators that provide panoramic city views, an indoor pool and gourmet rooftop dining at the Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar and View.
