Hotels in Ballymena, Ireland

by T.L. Chancellor

Ballymena is a town located about 30 miles outside of Belfast in Northern Ireland. Locally it is known as “The City of the Seven Towers,” but it mixes nearly 300 years of history with a contemporary feel, thanks to several local industries. For those traveling to Ballymena, several different hotel options exist, including a well-respected resort and a pair of hotels in buildings that date back to the 1800s.

Galgorm Resort and Spa

The River Maine cuts through this resort, set on lush Northern Ireland parkland. The Maine provides guests with the opportunity to fish. The Galgorm offers bike trails, hiking trails and horseback riding. The resort used to be a gentlemen’s residence, but it was expanded in 2007 to accommodate 75 new guest suites. The new accommodations retain that country feel with updated amenities like LCD televisions, sitting areas and balconies. The Galgorm also has its own bar and grill, a restaurant, a spa and fitness area, and a Great Hall that is suitable for both business conferences and weddings.

Tullyglass House Hotel

The main building of the Tullyglass dates back to the 1890s, and accommodations inside that building include five types of suites, including a Honeymoon Suite and a Presidential Suite. All rooms have televisions, trousers press, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. The Tullyglass offers a complete wedding planning service for ceremonies in the hotel, and the hotel’s Clock Tower Suite accommodates up to 800 guests. The Clock Tower is also available for business meetings and conferences. The Tullyglass has three different restaurants, including the Carvery, staffed by expert chefs who serve a succulent six-course meal.

Adair Arms Hotel

The building that houses the Adair Arms Hotel was built in 1846 by Sir Robert Adair. The hotel retains the builder’s surname and today offers 44 en-suite bedrooms. The three different bedroom styles all afford complimentary access to high-speed wireless Internet. The Adair Grill serves meals all day and features entertainment on Saturday nights. The Grill has light appetizers, sandwiches, a burger bar, salads, and full dishes like Chicken Chantrelle and the Adair Combo, which is smoked hickory ribs and chicken kabobs. The Adair Arms is one of the most convenient hotels to everything Ballymena has to offer, as it is located in the city center.

Rosspark Hotel

The Rosspark Hotel is a modern hotel in its architectural look and amenities. All rooms are en suite and retain a contemporary look, from glass-topped coffee tables to hardwood closets. The Rosspark features three different dining areas, and touts a contemporary but informal dining menu, along with special menus for kids, high tea and Sunday lunch. The business center features modern technology to handle any presentation, and guests use the fitness center. The Rosspark is located close to golf courses and several shopping centers.
