Hotels Along the Chicago Red Line

by Patrick M. Lind, Demand Media

The Chicago Transit Authority's Red Line subway and elevated train runs north-south from Cavalry Cemetery to 95th Street, passing through many neighborhoods and downtown along the way. The greatest cluster of hotels near the Red Line are found downtown. These hotels offer convenient access to various forms of public transportation as well as the city's most famous sights.

Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile

The Hilton Garden Inn puts guests in downtown's River North district, between North State Street and North Michigan Avenue. The Grand Avenue Red Line station is found directly outside of the hotel. The on-site Weber Grill restaurant serves classic American cuisine, like steaks and burgers, grilled over an open flame. The connected bar offers drinks and cocktails in a sports bar setting. Guests sleep in fairly standard hotel rooms, which come with blackout curtains, MP3 clock radios and flat-screen TVs. Wireless Internet is available throughout the hotel. Complimentary cookies are served in the evening in the lobby.

    Hotel Palomar Chicago

Located on State Street just steps south of the Grand Avenue Red Line stop, the Hotel Palomar Chicago offers four-diamond services and accommodations downtown. Every evening the hotel hosts a wine hour where guests can sip wine and socialize. The hotel's pet-friendly policy allows guests to bring their furry friends and even provides dog leashes, bowls, beds and pet-grooming and sitting services. Guest rooms have an artsy, boutique feel courtesy of interior designer Orlando Diaz-Azcuy; iHome docking stations, flat-screen TVs and L'Occitane bath products come standard.

    Hampton Majestic

Guests of the Hampton Majestic stay in the heart of the Loop near the Monroe Street Red Line. The hotel occupies the same building as the Bank of America Theater, a historic venue that dates back to 1906. It hosts Broadway-quality shows such as "Spamalot" and "Jersey Boys" in addition to special holiday entertainment, such as "White Christmas." Guests can combine their previously purchased theater tickets for any show downtown with the hotel's "Broadway in Chicago Package," which includes a free breakfast, free valet parking, a discounted room and complimentary CD. Guest rooms have a modern design and come with basic amenities.

    Embassy Suites Downtown Chicago

The Embassy Suites Downtown Chicago lies just one block north of the Grand Avenue Red Line within walking distance of River North's most popular restaurants, like Ed Debevic's, Portillo's and the Rock 'n' Roll McDonald's. This AAA three-diamond establishment opens with a foliage-filled atrium; the corridors to the 367 suites look out over this area. All suites have separate living rooms, flat-panel TVs and wireless Internet access. Guests can have a complimentary made-to-order breakfast in the atrium or take in a meal at the on-site, authentic Italian restaurant. The hotel's business center stays open 24 hours.
