Hotels on Ahmedabad Highway in Mumbai

by Joanne Thomas

Ahmedabad Highway, which is also known as the Western Express Highway, is a major north-south thoroughfare in Mumbai, India. Hotels located directly on the highway are generally found close to Mumbai's domestic airport. They range from modest, budget-friendly guest houses to modern business hotels to lavish, luxury resorts.

Hotel Transit

Hotel Transit is located just off the Western Express Highway, within minutes of Mumbai's domestic airport. It caters mostly to business travelers with services such as wireless Internet access and work areas in the guest rooms, but useful services for tourists are also provided, including a travel desk and complimentary airport transfers. Its 54 guest rooms are soundproofed to ensure a peaceful stay. The on-site restaurant, Red Grill, offers a la carte and buffet menus with Indian and international cuisine. Room service is also available.

Avion Hotel

Avion Hotel is located opposite the domestic airport of Mumbai and about three miles from Sahar International airport on the Western Express Highway. It is a 44-room, international-standard hotel with a 24-hour front desk and an Internet cafe in its 1,500-square-foot, marble-floored lobby. All the guest rooms and the one suite have satellite televisions and contemporary decor. Guest services include currency exchange, laundry services and an on-call doctor. A daily buffet breakfast is complimentary for guests, and the on-site restaurant also offers a la carte lunches and dinners.

Hotel Aircraft International

The family-run Hotel Aircraft International is a budget hotel in the center of Mumbai, close to both the domestic airport and a local railway station. The hotel offers four room types, all of which are air conditioned and include televisions. A courtesy airport pick-up is available, and taxis can also be arranged. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the hotel premises.

Sahara Star

The defining features of Sahara Star are its 55,000-square-foot tropical lagoon, enormous clear sky dome, the largest aquarium in India and curved glass elevators that take guests to their rooms. In addition to its 223 guest rooms and 13 suites, the hotel features 11 restaurants and bars, a spa and wellness center, and a hair salon. Notable guest-room features include balconies with views of the tropical lagoon, motorized curtains and ambient lighting controlled by a touch-screen panel. The Neptune Suites and Saturn Suites feature whirlpool bathtubs, and the 12,000-square-foot, three-floor Sahara Suite features a private elevator, a clear roof and a personal spa station with a flotation tank.
