Hotels near Honolulu International Airport are handy if you only have a night or two and want to explore Oahu but don’t necessarily care to stay in high-voltage Waikiki. Pick one of the properties fronting Highway 1 and be off on your exploration of historic downtown, Hanauma Bay or the challenging waves of the North Shore. Nearby Aiea, roughly five miles north of the airport, is another option, especially if the focus of your trip is Pearl Harbor or a game at Aloha Stadium.
Pacific Marina Inn – Highway 1
Managed by Castle Resorts, the Pacific Marina Inn offers a palm-fringed, moderately priced retreat at the edge of Honolulu Airport. Hop on the hotel’s airport shuttle or rent a car and take advantage of the complimentary parking. Unwind at the Pacific Marina Inn’s courtyard pool and sun deck. Visit the Canoe Hut Lounge for a tropical drink and Hawaiian style pupus, or appetizers. Take an evening stroll to the ocean front Keehi Lagoon Park, just behind the hotel, to watch the sunset. Waikiki Beach is nine miles east of your hotel.
Ohana Honolulu Airport Hotel – Highway 1
The word "ohana" means family in the Hawaiian language. The Ohana Honolulu Airport Hotel is family oriented, and that meaning of family extends to pets. Though bringing pets on short-term vacations to Hawaii is impractical because of animal importation laws, this is of particular interest to military families or others relocating to Hawaii on a long-term basis. Your four-legged friends are greeted with their own welcome basket and the hotel offers an enclosed grassy area for exercise. Entertain your kids at the outdoor pool or buy some snacks and drinks at the on-site Ku'ai Market and have an impromptu picnic at the special playground and picnic area. A rental car desk and Willoughby's Restaurant are on-site.
Best Western The Plaza Hotel - Highway 1
Offering 274 rooms on 12 floors, the Best Western The Plaza Hotel is the most upscale of the hotels near Honolulu International Airport. In addition to the complimentary shuttle, the Plaza Hotel offers a gift shop, banquet and meeting facilities and a laundry valet. Business travelers can catch up in the business center kiosk, then take a dip in the outdoor pool or settle on a lounge chair for an afternoon nap. The on-site Plaza Cafe serves quick meals, while a drive into Waikiki nets one of the hundreds of restaurants in the resort area. Pearlridge Shopping Center is four miles away.
Harbor Arms Hotel – Aiea
Another option for a hotel near Honolulu International Airport is in the town of Aiea. One property, the Harbor Arms Hotel combines the flexibility and added space of condo living with the convenience of hotel amenities. Each unit offers a fully equipped kitchen or kitchenette. Go for a jog or bike ride on the path around Pearl Bay or walk the three blocks to the Pearl Ridge Shopping Center to give that credit card a workout. This three-story low-rise offers free parking, daily maid service and a good-sized pool and deck area.
