In the past two decades, Portland has transformed from a sleepy post-industry dock city to a vibrant, youthful center of culture. Hip restaurants, bars and hotels have sprung up, not only in the city’s fashionable Pearl District but throughout the four quarters of Portland. Portland is an ideal destination for newlyweds looking to honeymoon in a young city with a cutting-edge arts scene, plenty of green space and a spattering of classy hotels that embody the city’s unofficial motto – Keep Portland Weird.

The Heathman Hotel

The Heathman Hotel is one of the crown jewels of Portland – ranked as one of the 500 Best Hotels in the World by "Travel+Leisure" magazine, and AAA four-diamond rated for nearly 30 years. The Heathman was built in 1927 and has undergone numerous renovations over the years to keep it at the cutting edge of luxury. Today’s Heathman Hotel is a comfortable, chic hotel, where room décor is generally earth toned, with splashes of bold colors, and unique works of art are displayed in each room. The hotel offers many small touches – from the doormen dressed as traditional Beefeaters to Andy Warhol prints on the lobby walls to a fully stocked tea room.

The Governor Hotel

The Governor Hotel celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2009 and continues to innovate in the Portland hotel scene. Although the Governor Hotel doesn’t explicitly cater to romantic travelers, the level of service and quality of accommodation is difficult to match in Portland. The rooms are spacious and private, with full room service and an incredibly attentive staff.

Avalon Hotel and Spa

The Avalon Hotel and Spa is not only a beautiful, luxurious destination for a honeymoon, it was also the first LEED-certified Green hotel – designated by the international Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design group – in the state of Oregon – and only the tenth in the world. Located on the Willamette River in the up-and-coming South Waterfront district, the hotel has a feeling of isolation and privacy, even while perching on the edge of the city. The hotel’s romantic package includes sparkling wine, chocolates and a special dinner for two at the hotel’s award-winning Italian restaurant Aquariva.

The Benson Hotel

With marble floor, crystal chandeliers, hardwood floors and plush carpets, entering the Benson Hotel is entering the lap of luxury. The rooms are open and well-appointed, and even the smallest have plenty of room to stretch around – while the suites are quite large, ranging from 500 to 850 square feet. The service is unsurpassed, with a Les Clefs d’Or concierge service that can take care of your every smallest desire. The Benson offers a special honeymoon package, with sparkling wine, chocolate-covered fruit, rose petals on the bed, and breakfast in bed.
