Residents of Trinity, a small town in north central Alabama, have several options for high-speed Internet service. DSL Internet service offered by AT&T; connects to your home through your phone line, but does not keep you from using your phone while on the Internet. WildBlue and HughesNet offer satellite Internet service, which connects to your home through a minidish or an antenna. Both companies let you lease satellite equipment from them. HughesNet offers an option to purchase the equipment instead. Both companies install the equipment for you. Charter offers broadband Internet service that connects to your home through a cable.

AT&T;

AT&T; provides high-speed DSL Internet service to Trinity with downstream speeds from 768 Kbps to 6 Mbps and wireless home networking. Speeds are from up to 13 times to up to 100 times faster than dial-up Internet service. Basic Wi-Fi service enables you to access the Internet while away from home as long as you're within 150 feet of an AT&T; hot spot. AT&T; high-speed DSL Internet service includes controls that let you block websites, if necessary, and control your children's time online.

WildBlue

WildBlue provides high-speed satellite Internet service to Trinity. Download speeds are from 512 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps. Upload speeds are from 128 Kbps to 256 Kbps. WildBlue sets thresholds for how much data you can upload or download within 30 days. If you exceed the threshold, WildBlue might temporarily reduce your speed. The download threshold is up to 17,000 MB, and the upload threshold is up to 5,000 MB. File transfer speeds are up to 30 times faster than dial-up file transfer speeds. WildBlue high-speed satellite Internet service includes standard installation of a 26-inch mini-dish and a modem that you will lease from WildBlue, up to 10 email addresses and security software.

HughesNet

HughesNet provides high-speed satellite Internet service to Trinity. Download speeds are from 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps. Upload speeds are from 200 Kbps to 300 Kbps. You have the option of leasing or buying the equipment, which has a 24-month limited warranty. After you place your order, a certified installer will contact you to set up an appointment to install a satellite antenna and a modem. HughesNet high-speed satellite Internet service includes 6 months of identity protection, technical support and virus and spam filtering. You do not need a telephone line or dial-up modem.

Charter Communications

Charter Communications provides high-speed Internet service to Trinity through a cable connection to Charter's fiber-optics network. Download speeds are from 1 Mbps to 60 Mbps. You need a cable modem. You can lease or purchase it from Charter, or you can purchase it from an electronics store. You do not need a telephone line unless you are using a one-way cable modem. Charter high-speed Internet service includes a security suite; charter.net, which is a customized home page; 10 email addresses; PowerBoost, which gives you extra speed and access to ESPN3.com, which lets you watch live sports online.
